To state the obvious, all quarterbacks throw to receivers that they trust. Some throw to the open man, using whatever receivers the OC has in the game.
===============
It is limiting on the GM to have a quarterback who is especially finicky with regard to the skills of his receivers, making the choice of receivers used on plays his choice instead of that of the OC or the situation on the field.
================
Obviously, Brady made this work, and made it work better than anyone in the league. I don't think that there is any question that Brady had his favorites (as every QB) and seemed to force throws to those receivers, even when 1 o 2 others were more open (perhaps more than most other QB's).
=================
And yes, Brady worked with some WR's in the offseason and not with others. And yes, if Brady had attended OTA's, the choice of who and how much he worked with receivers would have been up to the OC rather than Brady.
=================
IMO, since we no longer have the GOAT, and won't ever have him, this somewhat changes the offensive planning and also the choice of WR's. I also think that the offense will be "simpler" for a QB in his first year starting for the team. It is most unreasonable to expect a new QB to run the same plays as someone with 20 years in the system.
