Patriots Player Departure Bourne released (Update: Signs w/49ers)

NGL I thought they'd work a 7th for him or Bourne and a 7th for a 6th, something along those lines. Obviously by having him briefly on the 53 so did the FO

Looks like Minnesota was trying to trade for him but picked Thielen instead. SF is interested but with Minnesota out of the running, SF had little incentive to bid more than minimal compensation. Bourne asked to just be released and Vrabel probably honored the request at the expense of maybe a 6th/7th rounder flip.

Teams playing a bit dirty with the Pats…

Duggar, Jennings, and Bourne all should have had SOME trade value but teams seem unwilling to deal with the Pats even if it means they have to compete to sign players who end up released.

Duggar, the $$$ is obviously the issue but Bourne and Jennings are reasonable for their positions.
Was the rat manning the phone lines?

Bad injury luck and horrible team situation before getting hurt. Wish him better luck elsewhere as long as it ain't against us.

Guess we had no takers for a trade. ;(
Thats two players they tried to trade but had no takers probably due to the contracts Wolf signed them to last season.

There was no point to not just making this decision yesterday but lol all you want

There was a point or at least there was until the Thielen deal got done

I don't think Vrabel was doing Bourne favors here. He kept him in limbo longer than all the other cuts.

His tenure here was an interesting one.

Ultimately I think he was pretty good and mostly a fun watch.

Thx Bourne
He played well his first year here, (Mcdanial's last) then he and fat matt clashed, i blame fat mat. Patricia wouldn't play bourne for some reason

If they were attempting to make the trade with the Vikings, sure there was. And that's what's been reported. That the Pats were in negotiations with the Vikings and things fell apart when the Panthers offered up Theilen.

It begs the question of who was handling the negotiation. Was it Wolf? Or was it Streicher?

I think Boutte has already matched Bourne's capacity for this year's offense.
Then you add Williams as a spot-usage guy with speed.

Trade market fizzled, salary is too high to carry into week 1 where it'd become guaranteed.
Curious how many more releases we see before 3.

Total incompetence. kept him and released another player. now both gone and we got nothing
Ever think there's not 53 guys they want? Pump the brakes in the incompetence thing. Cheezus.

ZOMG 8 RECEIVERS oh wait lol
yeah, it was stupid to carry 8 on the 53.

there was no market for him, a team willing to trade a late round chip to secure his services before cut downs, and it was dumb to think that one would emerge after cutdowns when everyone knew we wouldn't carry 8 wrs into week 1

So looks like they did have some interest in keeping him but at a reduced salary. He said no, they tried to trade him, but didn't get far, so he was cut.
