"Last I checked the season is only in week 9 and we are one back of the division. a lot has yet to be decided"

Keep thinking that way if it helps you sleep better at night............

great argument why im being delusional The same forum that wanted the pats blown up 2 weeks ago now is wondering if Cassel should be franchised if he wins a Sb/ You barely beat the Rams w/o Jackson

Please tell me where im being too optimistic? I will breakdown my exact post:

That said the Jets are still in contention for the division (one game back of the Pats and Bills). The bills are a good team but they are over hyped (my opinion but I explain why next). They lost soundly to the fins yesterday (fact) , were half a quarter from losing to the raiders earlier in the year (fact), were killed by the same arizona cardinals (fact) who many here called a joke after we beat them (fact), and beat up on a bad seattle team (fact). If we beat the bills and you guys lose to the colts then its a three way tie (fact, a very realistic situation this sunday). Rams wont be easy but we can beat them as well (opinion). @ NE is a winnable game (opinion). No S-Jax and the Rams took you guys to the final gun (fact). Tennessee I dont see us winning (opinion). Bottom line is a lot is left to be decided and the Jets are still in contention for the division (fact).

Actually, I'm with K-Ro on this. Besides the Titans(and they've played a very weak schedule so far) I don't see any consistently stong teams out there. This year in the AFC, any team can beat anyone. The pats can crush Denver after getting crushed by San Diego a week before. The Dolphins can beat the Bills after losing the the Texans. The Jets lost to Oakland and barely beat the cheifs, yet I can see them beating the bills next week. The pats could win by 30 next week against the colts...or lose by 30. I would not be surprised with either out come. I don't think anyone else on this board would be either.

It's too early to rule out any team besides the Bengals. The Browns started out 0-4, yet are now only 2 games out of first place in the North. Only fools will discount teams this year.

First off, like any forum, we have our share of shack job fans who have to over-react to everything.

Secondly, the Rams, under Haslett, are a lot better than you give them credit for. They have a lot of talent on that team. ALOT. So, even without Jackson there, they still have Holt, Avery, Bulger, Pace, etc.

Lastly, we still beat the Rams. If you are going to talk about barely beating a bad team, then you shouldn't be a hypocrite about it. Since the Jets BARELY beat the Chiefs and you LOST to a horrible Raiders team.

Underestimate the Bills if you want to. But they are a good team.

Thanks, the only thing we know about football this year is that we know nothing concrete. The Jets beat the Phins, Phins beat the Pats, the Jets lost to the Pats, the Jets lost to the Chargers, Pats lost to the Chargers, the Phins beat the Chargers, the Bills were blown out by the Cards, the Jets killed the Cards, Cards beat the Cowboys, Redskins beat the Cowboys, Redskins lost to the Rams. You get the point.

The Pats were without a running game too though. It wasn't like they were full strength. Besides, they did hold the Rams to 16 points.

I am personally not talking Super Bowl for the Pats, but the Pats aren't making costly turnovers like the Jets are. You can survive costly turnovers against bad teams, but you cannot vs. good teams. Favre's three picks (that could have been 4) would destroy the Jets chances of winning the game if he was facing the Bills rather than the Chiefs.

Hey anything can happen. The Jets could pull it together as soon as this week. But I think Favre is too much of a gambling gunshooter and Mangini and his staff are not good enough to overcome his mistakes week after week. I think that is why the Jets won't be in contention for the division title. Unfortunately for them, their easiest stretch was the last three games and they ended up being 2-1 and not looking all that sharp in their two wins. You look at their schedule the rest of the way and their only relatively easy games are the Rams (which based on the last three weeks is not a given), 49ers, and Seahawks with two seperate West Coach road trips with the last two teams.

They got Buffalo twice, at Tennesse, at New England, Denver, and Miami on the schedule too. I can easily see the Jets going 2-4 or even 1-5 in those games the way they are playing now.

I said the bills are a good team but there not great. I only used the barely beat the rams argument b/c I heard the samething to diminish how we barely beat the Chiefs and barely beat the fish, so im not being a hypcorite. I have always said a W is a W, some here felt differently except when they watched their team barely beat the rams

Outside of Washington's play yesterday, there is no hint of positive play in which one "should" grasp onto in order to be optimistic about one's chances in the month of November.

agree 100 %

Honestly I see us missing the playoffs at 9-7. I think we have a bottom ten coaching staff in the NFL, our game planning is illogical most weeks.

They still have the talent to turn it around. Their one game back of first and still in it. Thats not optimism thats common sense.

Agree.

Though the local stations weren't sounding that great because of how the Jets nearly lost to a poorly ranked team thanks to coaches ignoring the running game (and of course, Mr. Favre's INTs ), the season is long and the record after seven games can go completely awry over the next seven games.

I am glad we are not facing Buffalo next week.

Re: Boomer Esiason on WEEI re: Cassell, the Playoffs and Mangini's Job Security

I have been saying this for years now. The football we get to watch in NE is head and shoulders above the rest of the league, with the exception of Indy over the past several years. We watch the best coached football team go out and execute nearly mistake free, week after week. Most Pats fans have come to expect that as the norm and because a lot of them don't watch to many other games from around the league, they think that is how the other "elite" teams play or at least the teams with the best records (Which is why I believe we have so many chicken littles running around here). When in fact the reality is much different.

For instance yesterday's Giants/Steelers game was littered with boneheaded penalties and plays. Manning looked lost on several occasions, Big Ben couldn't get out of his own way and the Steelers were not prepared to lose their long snapper. They stuck Harrison in there on the punt from the end zone and he snapped it over the punters head. Then a short while after they had Farrior practicing long snapping. It was as if they went down the sidelines asking "who has long snapped before"? I guarantee the Pats practice that scenario often and actually get the back up snapper plenty of practice reps.

This year because of the Colts woes and the loss of Brady have made it a wide open field and every team has flaws. Boomer is right the QB play from around the league is mostly terrible, but because the bar has been set so low as a whole, it isn't noticed as much - unless you are a Pats or Colts fan. Which IMO, makes all the Cassel bashing even more ridiculous, we are now on par with the majority of the league at the QB position instead of being on top of the mountain looking down at 30 others!

Fine, beat with a semantic stick if that's all you have.....

Re: Boomer Esiason on WEEI re: Cassell, the Playoffs and Mangini's Job Security

Boomer's always been one of the few that I actually like and respect

Re: Boomer Esiason on WEEI re: Cassell, the Playoffs and Mangini's Job Security

Boomer is actually one of the only TV experts I really like. Boomer can be a little bit of a **** sometimes, but he's the best of the NBC crew. And Long and Johnson are the only thing worth their salt at Fox. And don't make comment on ESPN, of which everyone should be locked in a burning building, with the exception of Keyshawn, who is probably my favorite of all.

I gained a lot of respect for Boomer when he called Peyton (pre-Super Bowl) the " Dan Marino of his generation" in front of Marino!!!!!!
YouTube - Boomer owns Marino

how many other talking heads would dare to criticize a fellow player, especially one in front of him???

He wasn't criticizing him, he stated to some affect that the organization just figured he could win without surrounding him with a full team. In Peyton's case no defense and in Marino's case no running game.

I wanted the Cheifs to pull that game out so bad against the Jets. I hope the Jets don't make the playoffs and Mangini gets fired for it. For what he did to the Pats causing the whole "Spy Gate" s***, the joke will be on him.
