Re: Rappaport: No deal for Bodden

if he is a top 20 cb then can we say he is an average #1 cb?

We can say he's a median #1 CB now what's the talent difference between top 5, middle 5 and bottom 5

Re: Rappaport: No deal for Bodden

Announcement imminent.

Re: Rappaport: No deal for Bodden

Way better than avg. He ranks 14th of 107 at profootballfocus. Asomugha rated 17th and Asante Samuel was 26th. Not to mention he is best the Pats have/had (whichever).

ProFootballFocus.com - By Position

If you think Bodden is even sniffing the league of Asomugha and Samuel you are nuts

Bodden is a top 20 CB but not in the elite by any stretch

How 'bout a #1 CB on a young secondary that could sorely use some help in the way of pass-pressure on the QB.

Asante and Asom are top 5 and potential HOF'ers. He might not be nuts though. Just needs to stop being biased or watch more football

Did you just put Samuel in Asomugha's league? Samuel couldn't hold Asomugha or Revis' jockstrap

Asante HOF? Where am I?

Re: Rappaport: No deal for Bodden

Bodden to me is directly in the middle between the gap of Hobbs to Samuel in terms of talent as a Patriot CB

I think Asante is a great corner but I will be surprised if he gets to HOF status,Ty Law won't get there and I don't think Samuel will either - Asomugha and Bailey look like much better chances.

Re: Rappaport: No deal for Bodden

Please people, Bodden is what he is, a very good #2 starting corner and a servicable #1. His eventual contract will reflect that. Which is about what Hobbs was (although they are different because Bodden has size while Hobbs had speed and could return kicks) and about what Asante is (although he is a ballhawk rather than a cover corner). None of them will ever see the HOF absent a ticket. Law is a bubble HOF'er although he'd likely have been a lock had he remained here...

Re: Rappaport: No deal for Bodden

LOL @ Asante Samuel as a potential HoF CB.

Sounds about right.

Re: Rappaport: No deal for Bodden

I like Bodden. I really do. I think that he is a good fit in our defense. But I will not panic if the Pats are unable to bring him back. We need to draft our own Revis. It's about damn time too. We will see what happens. He hasn't signed yet. The Pats have a lot of picks in this draft. I hope that they use them wisely. Drafting a #1 corner would be a good use of one of those picks. JMHO.

Draft our own Revis?

There are only two CBs in the NFL, including Revis himself, who are at that level.

I'd say the odds are minute, at best. And besides, having a shutdown corner is not necessary to have a championship-caliber defense. Assuming Bodden is retained, I'd exactly be a bit disappointed if they use one of their day one picks on a CB; I'd much rather focus on the front seven so we stop hanging the CBs we already have out to dry.

You should clarify that there are only a handful of CB's you consider -above- "serviceable"

The only way Asante is going to the HOF is if he buys a ticket like the rest of us. He is a very good CB, but no way even close to a HOFer. I don't even know if Samuel is even a top 5 CB today. CBs definitely ahead of him right now are Revis, Asomgha, and Woodson. There are several others who you could definitely argue is better. You might make a strong case he is top 10 CB.

Re: Rappaport: No deal for Bodden

Even if Bodden is only a #2, he is still worthy to start in the NFL and I will be happy if he is back. It is subjective as to where he falls in the spectrum, but I think he has proven to be worth a starting spot on the perimeter.

As to the money, it isn't something I have to worry about and if the Pats figure he is worth it that is all that matters. I think the important thing is they don't have to worry about plugging another hole and can focus their remaining resources (FA, trade, draft, whatever) on other matters. I also think it is nice to have some continuity with players returning. I don't see any real downside, even if they pay a little bit of a premium to keep the guy.

My chances of being canonized (i'm an atheist btw) are about equal to Asante's chances of making the HOF.

Re: Lombardi: Pats have re-signed Bodden [Agent: "Rumors are premature at best"]

LaCanfora says it's 5 years, $28.5m, $10m gtd.
