Woods is developing well. BB found him despite Carr's bad mouthing him. Don't forget he was a First round projection off his Sophomore year production, before being banished and forgotten.
Even if he didn't play on regular teams, he is so good on ST that BB would keep him. Izzo may get the Buzz, but Woods has lead the Team on ST tackles for three years straight; unless somebody caught up and matched Pierre in the last few games. He is following the classic Pats DE --> OLB three year development cycle. He has the size, and the speed range, plus the toughness displayed on ST, to be what BB wants in an OLB.
But I think he is a Vrabel, AD in the early making, more than a TBC. Even if he is middling between them and TBC, that is the kind of affordable red-chip player that Belichick garners and covets. I am no longer concerned with his rush LB play, but rather on his developing Pass Rush. Yet Pees, consistently calls him a Pass Rusher. I only hope that Crabel follows in the same footsteps.
OTOH, Vince Redd is a 4-5 year project since he did not play big time football. He is a triangle numbers guy. He must shine on ST to last that long development time needed, on the roster. Off the last few games maybe he will do so.
Meanwhile Gary Guyton has shown that he is exactly what the college experience shows. An ILB only; projecting his speed into OLB was not his forte, and his mediocre or worse play at OLB, will only degrade your expectations of him. That OLB performance took him from a late day one rating to UDFA. BB is good at situation substitution, and putting round pegs in round holes. Then playing square pegs for the square peg plays.
Ruud is a long-shot by comparison, IMO.
