OTOH, if it doesn't work, then you still need a 3-point conversion later on. I don't blame Belichick (Mr. Testaverde makes history last week, Mr. Flutie this week).

I'm glad Flutie made th history books, but we should have gone for two there...

Going for the one-point conversion was the by-the-book right thing to do in that situation, far too often teams go for 2 way too early and it hurts them in the end (remember Carolina in the Super Bowl?) Even with the 2 points we would still have been down by 4 and needed a TD.
