Bill Belichick Foundation

Good stuff by BB on this. And I see he made his girlfriend the Executive Director of the Foundation; hope that doesn't end ugly.

His idea, or his girlfriend's idea? Doesn't seem like something he'd do....

Just sayin'....

I support it nonetheless...and am buying raffle tickets

[Edit: this was a jerky thing to say...my reaction was based on him not seeming to be the most sociable person, but an introverted genius. The world of fundraising is the world of schmoozing and butt-kissing, not something he would likely be good at or enjoy, hence my first reaction. Just regret having it sitting here as one of the first comments in this thread....sorry BB, I know you are reading this!]

It Is What It Is » Bill Belichick launches his own nonprofit organization

Belichick Wednesday announced the official launch of the Bill Belichick Foundation, a nonprofit organization created to provide coaching, mentorship, and financial assistance to individuals, communities and organizations with a focus on the sports of football and lacrosse.

According to the first official press release from his foundation, Belichick’s mission is to “bring the value of the Belichick family – love of sports, coaching and team building – to the athletic leaders of tomorrow.”

“My goal is to recognize, support and endow those with great potential who have a need for additional help and resources,” Belichick said in a statement. “Mentorship has been ingrained in our family and we take a team approach to just about everything we do. We have been helped by so many people and we look forward to helping others however we can by relating our experiences and life lessons through a variety of athletic programs and services.”

The first fund raiser is a raffle ($2. each) for a pair of suite tickets and pre-game field pass to the Pats-Bills game; if you're out of town there is also a $500 allowance for travel, and the package also includes accommodations at the Renaissance Hotel at Patriot Place.

If someone here wins it. First of all, I hate you. Second, you must tell us how it goes it is a great prize.

I just bought 25 tickets. Fingers crossed.

I would say that since it's about mentoring and supporting coaches then I would guess that it was in large part his idea, with Linda there to run the day-to-day operations.

Yeah I regret writing what I did, sort of douchey..

Last summer I happened to be reading the local Youngstown (OH) newspaper while visiting my dad, and I noticed a small paragraph in the sports section which stated that Belichick had helped one of the local football programs there.

It's a very good read. Bill explained that he didn't want the Steve Belichick foundation (obviously controlled and run by Bill) to handle this specific issue, b/c it only helped one person at a time.

Instead, he developed a 5 yr program to help the local school's equipment budget, donating over 50,000 in the process with basically zero news press. I think it's a prime example of how much he really does value football, particularly at the lower level. I think more people would appreciate him if they knew of such aspects of his character, but sadly the average fan is completely ignorant in their assessment.

And check out how the Struthers coach was able to track BB down in the article, that's great stuff right there. I just noticed that tonight when reading it again.

And in the other way around, Iam surprised the local sports media has not written a sneering article on this yet with almost 24 hrs gone...

Well, we do have tasty tidbits from the national media like PFT, who claimed that "the grinch's heart grew 3 sizes" as Belichick started his foundation. That should hold you over.
