"For where we were picking"...our entire advantage in picking 3rd in each round was spent on Maye (and I think most of us are pretty happy with him so far). But by doing that and not trading out, it meant that we were picking behind everyone else after that in trying to land a WR & LT at 35 and 68. This was evident as we tried to chase Buffalo and KC at the end of rounds 1 and 2 and couldn't make a deal to move up. If we'd had an extra 3rd rounder to spend on a move-up, it would have made a huge difference, but we didn't.

The 34th player is still a great pick, so is 68. These were effectively 1st and 2nd rounders for us in previous years.

Once all the possible #1 WRs were off the board (except for Adonia Mitchell) by the 34th pick, we should have turned our attention to a developmental but talented LT like Patrick Paul.

Even if that was the case (and I'm highly skeptical of that) wouldn't it still fall on the owner for creating a situation like that instead of just paying both he and his assistants what they are worth independent of each other.

Im not going to question something that works. It worked. Belichick largely incentivized bonuses for production. instead of giving fat checks. Players knew they would get paid for performance. This is all Belichick really did by always reserving 10% of the cap for bonuses and salary top-ups. But in order to reserve that 10%, you can't stretch yourself beyond the cap by amortizing it in future years. This is exactly what Belichick did in 2019 -- and what we got from that approach was the mess of 2020.

RK said at the owners meeting bill had earned the right to do things his way. Wich he did. However no matter how legen a coach is. If the roster erodes and continually busting 1st round picks and the record gets worse any owner would make that tough call.

Now with a good season the Pats could win the rookie coaching award at every coaching position.

I watched the first show and left it somewhat unimpressed. Other than Belichick, you've got talking head former players that know players but don't seem to know plays. I may watch another few weeks to see how it goes.

I'm actually more curious about Belichick's other new "show", a podcast called "Coach with Bill Belichick". That one, while geared to help the gambling industry, might actually be where Belichick's "Belistrator" is reborn. The snippet they showed of the first episode has Matt Patricia breaking down plays with him.

I'll miss the Belistrator if it is no longer around.

Must -watch Fat Matt and BB telestrating Mac Jones at QB

Mayo is certainly capable calling out what is happening on the defensive side of the ball. Maybe can on the offensive side as well. Not sure he can do it at BBs depth though.

I do hope that the Jags end up having to put Mac in and then the podcast has Belichick and Patricia breaking down his play. That would be worth the price of admission.

I watched the first episode of The Breakdown with Peyton and Belichick on ESPN and it was very enjoyable. This is the aspect of Belichick that I want to see/hear. Seeing him break down the defenses of the Jets & 49ers was great. Hearing him talk about their defensive weaknesses has to be on these teams screens right now. It was a clinic.

Agreed. I loved the back n fourth between Payton and Bill on watching film against us and how Bill said he would play Manning. This is the side if Bill we never got to see as fans. I love it.
