In his MMQB column yesterday:

Greg Bedard said:
There has to be something going on injury-wise with Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork. He’s never going to wow with quarterback pressure, but he has been elite at taking on double teams and holding his gap against the run. Wilfork struggled mightily with that in the first two games, to the point that Jets guard Vlad Ducasse completely handled him on Thursday night. This is something to watch because the Patriots are basically playing a three-man tackle rotation with Wilfork, Tommy Kelly (who also tired against the Bills) and undrafted free agent Joe Vellano. That’s all the Patriots have.

He struggled bad thursday night..like he said he dominates his gaps...i don't think he is 100%. But they would have picked up more bodies if that was the case i would think.

Yeah, he did not look good. I wonder if the 4 day turnaround had a big part in that. He's probably the guy on the defense most likely to have stamina issues, as the biggest defender to play a high percentage of snaps.

Credit to the Jets for being ballsy enough to let Ducasse attempt to block Wilfork alone, just to find out that it actually worked.

He's either hurt or sick. I hope he'll be back atop his game soon.

We'll know soon enough. It's possible that two games in a four day span vs QBs with the ability to run may have had some bearing on him having an off game.

A nice 10 day break may end up being just what the doctor ordered.

He's got 10 days. . . . ray2:

Big Vince better or else his wife will have 40000 text messages waiting for him post game

She'd probably have at least 1/2 that amount no matter what

Vince trains assiduously for stamina by swimming laps off season, a great conditioner and easy on the weight bearing joints for a big man. Probably something amiss right now but w/o any panic roster moves having been made it's probable that the staff thinks just some time will mitigate whatever it is.

Thankful we're past the 2 games in a row BS.

I use both the regular pool and the therapy pool. Resistance walking as well as leg lifts, and body lifts in the therapy pool are excellent exercise. Frankly, I'm surprised more people haven't figured that out.

I can't help it!

If you don't mind me asking or getting too personal, do you have a physical condition, or just use it as regular workout maintenance?

I have been going downhill a bit in terms of some psoriatic arthritis conditions and the inflammation that comes with it, and have been considering using some form of hydro therapy myself. Being in my late 30's, I'd like to try and combat this now so that it doesn't affect me as much later on down the road.

Sorry for the ignorance, but what exactly are leg lifts/body lifts? Are those weight bearing exercises under the actual water?

He might not have had a good game but he forced Smith into that first interception.

Reading Jets fans talking about Ducasse handling Wilfork and that Kris Jenkins would have been a better challenge is rusting my jumbos.

His weight is down also ... I don't want to say it either but we already released someone for this. Not that Vince would be released ... but it would affect his play. Hopefully it's a flu or stomach bug.

He's pulling a Mankins and playing on a torn ACL.

Not sure if you stayed up to watch the post game interview with Wilfork on NFLN or not, but he actually seemed to be very proud of the fact that his weight has come down. He claimed that it's been coming down the past couple/few seasons, and that he's really been trying to take good care of himself physically.

Here's hoping that it's just a fact of playing 2 games within a 100 or so hour span, along with being double and triple teamed on every play. On top of that it was against a team with an up tempo offense (BUF) and both teams had QBs who scrambled and moved around a lot. It's quite possible that Wilfork had a bit of an off day due to these facts. It is at least worth consideration.

In the absence of any roster moves, I'd say it could be something like the cold or a mild case of a flu, in combination of a short week turnaround.

Hope it's nothing.

Get yourself a buoyancy vest, a tether band to hook yourself onto the end of the pool (or side of the pool) and have at some underwater running sessions supafly. Make sure you're in a deep enough pool, so much so that your feet can't touch the ground and you're forced to keep yourself upright. These sessions are brutal and really do add a different dimension to your health.

Here's a handy hint. Make sure you apply a generous amount of vaseline to areas that would normally chaff or at the very least, wear some of the swimming togs that look like cycling tights. If you don't go down either path, you'll understand why after your first session.
