Bedard: There was second guessing about Mayo over summer and him getting a second year isn't guaranteed

I also suspect AVP doesn’t report to Mayo. Which makes you wonder what he’s actually coach of?
That’s a great observation and question Mike. I am wondering the same now as well. He seems like more of a QB coach/developer who also happens to be calling the plays on Sundays, rather than a full blown OC.

Josh McDaniels anyone. Would it be that bad a choice. HC no. OC yes

If this is true, they need to already have someone in mind. If they don't, this will create more chaos and draw this out. Canning a first year HC after half a season is no way to start a rebuild. I get that people are unhappy with the results so far (yours truly included). What did they honestly expect? To be undefeated? JFC, BB, GOAT HC, was not turning things around and he had what, 5 years of trying to do so? If this happens, they have to bring in a known commodity like Vrabel or Kingsbury and not take a flyer on someone who is "such a great guy and teammate" and a virgin at HC. As much as I hate losing, I really hope the leash he is on is not this short. Also...if Mayo is gone, is everyone else going to be purged later on?
Mayo was sold as a culture builder. I expected to have a tough team playing together fundamental football. I thought that with Mayo the defense would be able to stay decent.

I didn’t expect the total opposite. There is no culture. Mayo is far from a leader. He doesn’t get his hands dirty, i honestly don’t know what he does expect pacing the sidelines. He has no answer X’s and O’s wise. He is pretty much useless.

The team look like an headless chicken running around.

DeMarcus Covington? Worst DC in the league.

That’s more or less what Bedard said (not saying you’re just mimicking him). If I were the owner, I’d give him the rest of the season to show improvement (not necessarily a better record, but a better process, some progress) and if I didn’t see it, he’d be gone.

Agree. I also saw Currans podcast where he mentioned similar sentiments. I think my guy Mayo's gone at the end of the season. It's just to much dysfunction and I think it's probably going to end as seasons end.

This point cannot be understated enough.

I'm sure they both said, "Hes a good guy. We've always worked well together". during their respective interview processes but when the losses pile up, the knives come out and philosophies are argued as to which one is better long term.
Mayo is a condiment.
But you gotta keep the wolf from the door

It's coming out in dribs and drabs, but signs are pointing to Mayo being little more than a figurehead/team media spokesman. No Xs-Os expertise worthy of his post, no input on game planning. All just because RKK fell in love with the guy's personal profile and decided not to interview HC candidates. It's beyond outrageous.
And where is this coming out of? Your ass?

Sorry, could not resist the last part which is a joke. Just a moment of rare, dare I say, comedic brilliance as I was typing the first question.

He puts out two or three podcasts a week.
Jes the most dialed in of all the team insiders. I didn't want to believe it.. but I think there's something to the reports.. second guessing, and then how the team has looked.. I sense there is something going on.

1) Kraft made a commitment to Mayo, obviously a terrible idea. He wanted to keep Mayo here while also keeping Bill's son.

2) Kraft fulfilled that commitment

3) Then, the Kraft's promoted Wolf to be above Mayo and essentially to report to the family.

4) I would be shocked if Wolf didn't get approval for his off-season plans with the Kraft's (more than once).

AND NOW?
There is not a lot to do anytime soon. However, the team COULD make McAdoo an interim coach and also hire the jets coach as an Advisor
For The Defense or simply as DC. We got a wakeup call when the jags ran 18 times in a row without the patriots being able to do anything.

Covington was totally useless in reacting to the running game (for the 3rd? game). My gut tells me that the secondary coaches would have done better than Covington. We didn't want to lose Covington, so we promoted him to the level of his total incompetence.
McAdoo is your answer? Seriously? The guy is a clown.

Definitely came from someone high up in the Pats.

I am of the opinion that HC and GM should be married at the hip. If a team underperforms and you want to fire one of them, fire both. That way they both have the same goal and none of this backstabbing BS.
I agree, but once Kraft separated them, it was bound to go wrong. I can imagine the decision before Kraft is “do either of these guys have a vision for this team?” Wolf does. Whether Kraft is still buying into it is another question. But does Mayo even have a vision for what this team can become or how to get there? I don’t get that sense about him.

Things like "comedy," "brilliance" and "American football" are foreign concepts where you come from, so the source of your post is duly considered.

What are you talking about? It was just a joke. The last part. Was curious your sources though.

They can’t just fire the coordinators. There isn’t a coach in the league that would take a coordinator position under Mayo after seeing what a disaster he is as a HC. Particularly knowing the job would very likely be one & done.
This is the crux.... We need new coordinators and noone would want to come under Mayo. So Mayo really has no option but to get fired. Whether it happens mid season or towards the end is what is unknown .

Robert Saleh should have more options . The only thing working for us is Saleh hometown is in Jersey , so it's closer to us . We might want to get him as a consultant DC but with more empowers than Covington and move play calling to mcAdoo and try to salvage the season.

But all around the coaching is so bad , that there is no hope for Mayo unless he gets into a pact of efficiency and competency with Covington , AVP and players to supremely lift themselves and play above their sum of parts .
