I don't expect Sanchez to come out and breath fire,He just needs to be a managable QB and not one to try and win games on his own - He will, like all rookies struggle.
I think in Ryans first year as coach he wants to develop his defense into a very formidable one and work on the offense shortly after and I think thier offense will struggle at times - Still thinking that the Jets could earn 10 wins is not being too crazy unless Sanchez turns out to be a total shmuck as a rookie.
I think Ryan's success was because he had the best RB in the NFL last year to back him up and Flacco was successful because he had the best defense backing him up. Sanchez has neither.
I don't think the Jets will win 10 wins with there schedule. I know Ryan wants to turn the defense around quickly, but that may not happen overnight and most likely won't be anywhere near as good as the Ravens defense last year. The Jets' defense was average last year and their pass defense was horrible. They have no DEs really suited for the 3-4 and traded away one of their starters. David Harris had a down year last year and it could be that his rookie season was a fluke. Bart Scott needs to prove himself that he wasn't a product of the talent around him. Neither Calvin Pace nor Bryan Thomas have been dominant pass rushers that what makes the Ravens' defense so special. I know the world thinks he is going to perform a miracle on Vernon Gholston, but I rather doubt it. Kris Jenkins proved again last year that he just can't play at a high level for 16 games. Lito Sheppard dropped to fourth on the depth chart in Philly and now asked to start in NY. Kerry Rhodes has been non-existent since he got his new deal.
I think the Jets' defense has a way to go before it is good enough just to ask the QB to manage the game last year. If Favre just did that last year, the Jets probably would have won 6 or 7 games. Favre didn't have a good year and contributed to a lot of the losses, but he did win a few games for the Jets including the Pats' game. No way could the Jets win against the Pats this upcoming season (assuming Brady is back to atleast 90%) with Sanchez just managing the game.
BTW, who is Sanchez going to throw to. By my count, he has one legitimate WR who is best suited as a #2 WR rather than a #1. Keller is a decent enough TE and Washington can catch some balls as a RB, but is that really enough to allow a first year QB to just manage the game?
