Jets look like they're going for it all in 2009 - Don Banks - SI.com

and this pats nugget

And the rich get richer. New England on Sunday somehow wangled a 2010 second-round pick and another seventh-rounder this year (No. 252) from Jacksonville in exchange for the first of the Patriots' three third-round picks, No. 73 overall. The Jags used the pick to select the little-known Derek Cox, a cornerback from William & Mary who most draft analysts didn't have among their top 50 prospects at the position.

Later in the round, New England was at it again, shipping its No. 89 pick to Tennessee for a Titans second-rounder in 2010. Tennessee took South Carolina's Jared Cook with the pick, a player many considered the draft's second-best tight end prospect.

How'd you like to pay New England's phone bills on draft weekend? But nobody works the draft process any more effectively than Bill Belichick, who seems to be doing just fine this year without his right-hand man, Scott Pioli, around. By constantly parlaying picks into even more picks, that's how the Patriots seem to be loaded for bear each and every year in the NFL Draft.

going for what? This year has all the makings of a rebuilding year. Typical Jets being offseason champions.

they've been going for it last couple years and been going nowhere fast.

IF the Jets defense comes as advertised, thier offense only has to be decent and not great for thier team to win more than lose games.

I could see the Jets winning 10 games this year with most wins coming in semi-low scoring games.

I would not brush them off so quickly just because as a Pats fan that you may have a dislike for them, they should be interesting at least.

I don't buy the hype for this Sanchez kid. I could be dead wrong. Who knows? But I've noticed that when a player is hyped up like he was, they sometimes don't live up to that hype. I'll wait to see how he does in preseason before I form an opinion.

Isn't "it all" a Super Bowl title? Last I checked, as impressive as those 2 were, they combined for 2 playoff victories.

Those 2 are also more of the exceptions than the rule. Most rookie QB's struggle significantly and going with a rookie QB is not the way teams typically approach going for it all. Trading for Cutler would've been much more of a "going for it all in 2009" move.

Thanks for this post. With a new coach and some of their acquisitions, I don't see any real reasons to doubt they'll be a formidable foe to the other AFC East teams and they'll make the run for the AFC East title interesting.

oh yes there going for it all with a rookie QB lol

What that article really should say is that so far, the Jets have made all the right moves. The Jest are definitely not Superbowl contenders even though they might be going for it all (but really other than the Lions what team doesnt go for it all every season?).

Im not used to their staff not being complete morons. I have to admit it looks like theyve had a pretty solid free agency and draft... but then again they are the Jest so we will see.

The Jets first 4 games are against Houston, New England, Tennessee and New Orleans. They could easily be 0-4 and already all but finished.

I must have missed the Baltimore Atlanta superbowl last year.....

Even if the Jets make the playoffs from what I read in here, its apparent that most of you guys will be shocked - Most of guys in here from thier dislike of that team is expecting 6-10 from past failures . . No one knows including me if Ryan will become the next Weeb Eubank? or will he be more like Rich Kotite?

I think they will end up as a wild card and if the Pats team goes into an injury epidemic to key players it may be more than just a WC for the Jets

The Jets look to me like the 2nd best team in this division at least as far as it looks on paper - It may change when the real games start ..or it may not - Sanchez is indeed the answer of whether it will be Failure or Fortune in NY.

Rookie QBs lately have been red hot in getting thier teams to play well - It seems since Roethlisberger we see more and more higher round drafted QBs transition very fast and very well to the NFL

The Ravens had arguably the best defense in the NFL and the Jets defense isn't even close to that especially since they still have questions on the d-line. Look at the game the Ravens defense struggled last year and look at how Flacco did. The Jets are not going to nearly as successful.

BTW, last year was a fluke where two rookie QBs led their teams to the playoffs. Doubtful it will happen again this year especially with a guy as inexperienced as Sanchez. Even Peyton Manning couldn't get more than 3 wins his rookie year granted his team was worse than the Jets this year. I expect the Jets to finish third again this year and probably only have 7-8 wins.

Sanchez is still raw and a project. He may have the most upside in the draft, but even Pete Carroll said publically that he didn't think he was ready to enter the draft. Both Flacco and Ryan were two year starters in college and more polished coming into the NFL.

Did you just get that crystal ball in the mail from QVC or did you have it for awhile?

Flacco had most of his bad games against the World Champs who had the BEST defense in all of football last year and he was whipped 3X by them - I don't see any AFC East team being anywhere near as good on defense as last years Pitt team,In fact the Steelers Defense was downright scary at times in 2008.

Look - The Jets have the talent and the experience across the board on defense to be good and help them win about 10 games - If the offense struggles and the defense does not succeed at what Ryan expects, then it could be a long season for them - Its 5 months away before we see anything from them.

What about the Colts' defense that intercepted him three time, held him to no TDs and the entire offense to 3 points? I think every team in the AFC East have defenses as good as last year's Colts' defense. How about Cleveland who held him to no TDs and 2 INTs? Or Miami in the playoffs who allowed him to complete 9 of 23 passes for 135 yards and no TDs? Granted there is no team in the AFC East as good as Miami now is there?

Again, Flacco was more NFL ready than Sanchez and had a better defense. He still shot the bed in his fair share of games. Sanchez may be an elite QB someday, but he is less prepared for the NFL than any first round QB from last year's draft.

I don't expect Sanchez to come out and breath fire,He just needs to be a managable QB and not one to try and win games on his own - He will, like all rookies struggle.

I think in Ryans first year as coach he wants to develop his defense into a very formidable one and work on the offense shortly after and I think thier offense will struggle at times - Still thinking that the Jets could earn 10 wins is not being too crazy unless Sanchez turns out to be a total shmuck as a rookie.
