AVP didn't know Marcus Jones played offense until recently

He should be too embarrassed to say that out loud. That is pure incompetence. You would think he would have watched the last several years of the offense to help evaluate the talent and figure out what they do well and don't.

To those trying to pin this on Mayo, he is not a kindergarten teacher.
Maybe he shouldn’t be a kindergarten teacher but things like this make it seem he needs to be.

Just a wee dram before bed.

Nothing wrong with a wee dram before bed. Keim's issue was with the daily 1,000 or so not so wee drams that preceded it

He is sort of throwing his head coach under the bus.

Should he have watched every play of the last two seasons? I guess so even though it was two different OC’s, it’s a good point you brought up, I probably would have.

I still think it’s a bad reflection on Mayo and the whole damn coaching staff. Since the day AVP was hired, OTA’s, mini camp, training camp, preseason and all the coaches meetings that Mayo or Troy Brown never thought of bringing this up to AVP. I’m more shocked that Troy Brown didn’t think of bringing it up.

Sadly, Troy hasn't done much of anything since he was named a coach. As good a player as he was he is just as bad a coach. Like Mayo, he just seems to be there so that the organizational chart has the slot filled in.

When you have an electric punt returner isn't it common sense to employ them in some gadget plays. How can you not even think about it ?

How do we expect AVP to devise new plays taking into consideration team composition, Drake strengths and other wise receiver fits.

TT is on their PS, he isn’t playing and Juju and Uche have been invisible for the most part. Not the flex you think it is.

Offensive coaching staff Is the best part of the coaching staff right now. Drake Maye is getting better every game,. The play calling has been better, the scheme has been better, the OL has been better. The TE room is right know the 4th most productive in the league. (Rec and Yds).

and AVP has been doing that with JAGs except Maye and Henry. Maybe we can wait until AVP has playmakers and a real line before judging if his scheme sucks and he doesn’t know what is doing or if the scheme is maybe limited by the players he has.
Someone's farting out rainbows and at the other end you'll find the Ghost of Conor McDermott.

Calling Pop Douglas a JAG insults my very being.

AVP's coaching of Maye and his improvement on his playcalling is the best part about this season. But it's pretty bizarre that he didn't know Marcus has played some offense, especially since Mayo has been here and saw Marcus play offense.

Also if you're gonna keep Mayo, might as well keep Wolf. Make these two a package. If you're gonna keep one, keep both. If you're firing one, fire both and do a complete restart.

The guy is embezzling a check every month. He cant teach Polk how to not provide costly penalties or how to catch or just keep his mouth shut. Just because your a great player does equal great coach.......as shown by Mayo.

Brown doesn’t coach WR’s any more. He’s a skills coach for KR and PR. Whatever the hell that is.

IMO, it's okay. AVP has been poor as an actual OC, but he did do a pretty good job setting the fundamentals for Drake which he will build off of for the rest of his career. AVP's concepts are also so basic that it will be very easy to replace him with a new OC in 2025 who also runs the West Coast offense, and have Maye adapt to it without the kind of struggle you might see elsewhere when a rookie QB has to adapt to a new OC in year 2.

It's not really a year to compete, anyway - the most important thing long term was Maye's progress and that's been a big success so far. Not a whole lot else truly matters, you can replace almost everything else in 2025 via coaching changes, free agency signings or draft picks.

In Mayo's defense, he may have been slinking up the back stairs to Thunder's suite when Jones was lining up in the backfield in all those games.

Can't think of any explanation why Wolf and/or Groh never alerted AVP.
Maybe Groh was too busy sniffing Boney T's ________?

Agreed. However AVP Is wolf guy. The fact maye day has gotten to this point buys AVP time and wolf can sell that to ownership. Next season with Higgins, draft pick, Polk, Baker, pop if the offense still isn't unlocked then I can see maybe a change perhaps.

Is anyone surprised by the rookie coaching/GM gaffes anymore?

They don’t know which way the wind is blowing, it took them 3 weeks to figure out how not to let the clock run out before halftime with all their timeouts and two minutes on the clock, they’re cutting talented young players like Thornton and Marco Wilson instead of developing and improving them.

This team is going to sit in idle with a stud QB for the foreseeable future until Jonathan talks his dad into reconsidering if god actually spoke to him on the mountain.

Marco wilson .. they have the same defensive coaching.. B. Belichick, pelligrino and Covington.. supposedly the same defense was kept from Bill.

Marcus Jones is too obvious when he’s on the field with the offense. Just like it was when we used to get the weekly Matthew Slater bomb downfield that would usually land incomplete. Or the obvious run when the lined up in goal line at midfield with Gilislee in the backfield only to end in a stuffed run leaving Gilislee throwing his hands up frustration.
