AVP; could be great for this team.

Lol.. ok well bill typically made good coaching choices over his stellar career.. can you pull up some stats of who hired a DC to be an OC? By that logic I'll hire my electrician to do my windows.
Or hiring a window cleaner to do your plumbing....

Who Klemm? ZBS is more about agility when you don't have strength up front so it's understandable they were doing that because of the lack of talent. Too bad they couldn't pass block.

Also Bill as GM could have changed QB at any time he saw fit.
The Patriots had one of the best offensive lines in 2021, but by 2022 you think they forgot how to block, coach and lost all their talent. Sounds legit...

According to reports BB wanted to move away from Mac and was told by ownership to give him another chance.

The dicenscion started in the offseason in 2022.. the entire offense, and leaders on defense privately felt bill wasn't making the best decisions for the team like he marvled at. McCourty for one even said so. The herald reports Callahan & guregrengian all went In depth getting reports from front office people down to low level staffers. The draft is really what caused ownership to have a collaboration. Bill likely didn't mind it.. his salary didn't suffer.. he still got his 25 million while assistant coaches made dunkin donuts money. But we can agree yes Mac wasn't the guy he was ruined.
"Collaboration" began in 2021.

Matt wasn't a particularly good defensive coordinator when he was handed the job but not the title earlier, in time he got better. I regularly criticized Patricia back then. He might have improved as an offensive coordinator, Zappe looked great in 2022.

They looked worse with Zappe so....
Zappe had better stats in 2022, so did Mac in 2022... but Zappe was far superior. In 2023 the team Zappe inherited was a shell of the team Mac started the season with.
BB was the GM. The buck stopped with him. Other people were free to give their input but if BB really wanted to keep Meyers he would have overridden what anyone else said. Same with the QB situation.
The owner signs the checks, the buck stops with him. Learn how the pyramid works.

I suspect the wheels started turning when Tom won his championship in Tampa... but Mayo was crowned the heir apparent much earlier than that so there was clearly a plan. Wolf was hired in 2020.

I can agree there.. Bill knew mayo would be his successor. He was fine with it. The time-line was accelerated by the choices of 2022 and the all pro QB play that led to 4-13. Bill was supposed to be done after 2025..

Is this the same Zappe or a different JAG QB?

It was pointed out that Bill didn't talk up Mayo in his boring pressers last year probably because of the inevitable.

Too bad the coach decided for reasons only known to him to hire two guys in way over their heads to run his offense. The Pats OL looked like any team's would with wretched coaching.

I think Jonathan wanted control of his inheritance back, pushed his timeline up and made decisions outside of his expertise.

A ship can’t have two captains, Jonathan had the ultimate power, 2023 was the result of that power struggle.

Just having everyone pulling in one direction and having a good team to begin with should ensure a much better product in 2024.

Or bad QB play…

Zappe did nothing in 2022 that Jones couldn't have done. He looked putrid in relief of Jones in 2023 and when he got his chance to start he was shut out by the worst defense in the league at home in 2023. No he was not far superior at anything. At best it was the exact same inept offense.

Not when it comes to the football operations. If Bill was the GM then the buck stopped with him for anything related to football ops. Unless you're saying Bill wasn't really the GM or head coach. That would be quite the take...

Zappe as a starter in 2022….

Far superior to Mac.

IF Mac Jones is our bar it means we have very low expectations when Zappe got his chance he sucked royally.

Far superior to Mac.

I stand corrected he is far superior to Jones at taking sacks. 24 sacks in his last 6 games as starter. Projected to a full season that's 68 sacks which would make him the most sacked QB in the league and not far off from the NFL record.

The smurf is not an NFL quality QB, never was, never will be. So no, the offense didn't look better with a different QB.

That too. Coaching matters a lot though and it sure showed over the last couple of seasons.
Although BB was at the Top of the food chain with his Coaching salary his team was sinking deeper and deeper into obscurity. I'm glad the tenure ended when it did Bravo RK.
