I thought the Pats only lost 1 game with the throwbacks this year?
They were supposed to wear them 4 times total this year, 2 reds at home (BUF,TEN) and 2 whites on the road (DEN,MIA). Because the MIA game was moved from primetime to 1 o'clock, the Fins decided they'd rather wear their whites due to heat issues etc, which caused the Pats to wear the reds instead--even though it was a road game.
In the 3x they wore the reds, they went 2-1, with the lone loss to MIA 22-21.
In the only time they wore the whites (at DEN) they lost in OT by a FG.
Technically, they went 2-2 in the throwbacks:
W vs BUF 25-24 (reds)
L at DEN 20-17 OT (whites)
W vs TEN 59-0 (reds)
L at MIA 22-21 (reds)
Personally, I think that a mediocre year simply coincided with the AFL anniversary, leading some to think the throwbacks carry "bad mojo." I think if the 06 or 07 team used them, it wouldn't be such a topic. But like I said before, everyone is going to have their own opinion, so there is no right/wrong. I am just stating my opinion, which is also taking into account that many were outright clamoring for them the past few years.
I don't really believe that a 1 pt win + a 1 pt loss, coupled with a 59-0 blowout and a OT loss tell us enough one way or another. I tend to think that it was more of a coincidence than a trend. IMO, they could've worn 18k gold jerseys this year, and probably still have gone 10-6.
