I wouldn’t have any problem with the pick, he’s a special player, and you want as many of those as you can find. I would also be happy if they can manage to get Omarion Hampton with their second pick, even if it requires a trade up.

I won't pretend to have done the work to actually evaluate assessment of the players, but I am comfortable saying I support the logic. This team's biggest need is not a LT. It's not a WR. It's not any specific position. Their biggest need is elite players.

Maye/Gonzalez and Barmore if he's healthy are the only players I see myself giving even a single **** about whether they're on the team next year. That's a QB, DT and CB and the latter 2 positions have multiple starters. The roster is a total blank slate outside of the QB position as far as I'm concerned. Taking another QB high is the ONLY pick I'll reject on account of what position they play.

Guess it depends on what the team does in free agency. As it currently stands, I dont see any point drafting a RB to just waste their talents behind this **** OL. If things get better, I’d consider it but wouldnt be my first choice.

I don't know enough to exactly "sell" you on this, but let me just ask you a little more about your reasoning. You say he isn't Sanders/Faulk/LT/Barkley... why? Is it a genuine scouting assessment, or are you simply scoffing at the idea because those guys are/were so insanely good that you don't feel comfortable putting any prospect on their level? If it's the latter, it's going to be hard to "sell" you on it because it could be a literal Barry Sanders clone as a prospect and if that's your thought process you still wouldn't accept him as such.

I think the only wat to get sold on this would be to just throw biases aside and simply evaluate the players and honestly assess how good you think they can be at their respective positions.

RB's have too short of a self life in general. Ashton Jeanty had a great college season but he's not a generational prospect the way guys like Barry Sanders, Ricky Williams, and Saquon Barkley were coming out of college. The OL as it is now would cap his production as a runner. This is a very deep draft at RB, use a later pick on a guy like Omarion Hampton or TreVeyon Henderson.

You know what, I can kind of get behind it. I might even be fine with TE Tyler Warren out of PSU. Get elite players. You'll get a lot more mileage out of these guys plus an average line stocked via free agency and round 2/3 draft picks than you would with their alternatives plus trading down for an LT, or reaching for one at #4.

Why is that Jeanty seems to be taking a hit since the season ended?

He got so much hype during the year and if I remember correctly only Barry has more single season rushing yards than him.

I can fall in line with this being a passing league and that 4 is too high to pick RB but he seems like he should be considered far and above the best back in the draft. What am I missing?

They played a very weak schedule. The best defense he faced was Penn State. He did break 100 yards in that game but the YPC was less than half his average at 3.5 yards.

I just question the competition.

Plus I’ve always been a believer of the line makes the back better.
A great back will still struggle with a bad line.

Honestly this is where I get a little lost trying to project guys to the pros. I generally do lean toward the big programs like Georgia and LSU because it's easier to project them to the pros but there are plenty of good players that come from all over. I suppose they don't typically go 4 but they also don't typically rush for 2600.

Funny thing is I don't really want him that much but the more I look at guys not named Hunter or Carter the more I just want to circle back to Tet or Jeanty (& Jeanty seems more legit of the 2). I fully admit they are shiny toys but I don't really want a short armed LT or a light heavyweight DT.

If it's not Hunter or Carter my short list is Will Johnson, Jeanty, or Tet. With Campbell a close 4th mostly due to need.

Besides, who's going to open holes for any RB (no matter how talented) if the OL isn't improved?

Ashton Jeanty is a running back. If you draft a running back at #4, he better be the next coming of Barry f'in Sanders. Otherwise, you don't take a RB in the 1st round anymore.

You're ASSUMING he'll be the highest rated player on the Pats board.

Where do you get that Mason Graham is "Too Light"? Seriously. Unless he's 6'1 and 255 his weight will be FINE to play at a DE position.
Unless Campbell's arms are 30in, they'll be fine. Or did you forget that Matt Light's arms were 32in and he played as a top 10 OT for several years.

With Jackson having re-signed with LA and the rumors going strong that Stanley is going to re-sign, you'll be looking a a Questionable Cam Robinson and the LT who allowed the MOST pressures of any LT in the league last year in Dan Moore. What "O-line" are they going to add that will IMPROVE the OT position.

Dan Moore - 1128 snaps - 627 pass blocking - 12 sacks, 3 hits, 26 hurries - 5 penalties
Vederian Lowe - 802 snaps - 501 pass blocking - 5 sacks, 5 hits, 23 hurries, 13 penalties (*627 pass blocking snaps, 6-7 sacks, 6-7 hits, 29 hurries)


The Pats need help on BOTH lines. They drafted only ONE OT last year when they should have drafted TWO. They added an OG who was a very bad fit for the blocking scheme in Robinson. It made ZERO sense when they already had Strange, Sow, J. Andrews and a host of vets who had experience playing at OG. The Pats are more likely to get better players for the Front 7 in Free Agency the way things are shaping up. Which makes last year's screwup with Robinson that much more brutal.


The only way that Jeanty, Tet, or Hunter should be on the Pats radar is if they can't find a partner to trade back with. The three are a luxury that the Pats can't afford until the O-line and Front 7 are solidified.
