Arthur Blank: Bill was never offered the Falcons job.

He really went out of his way to hammer the point lol.
The worse part of what Blank said was about Bill sending him a text saying he was happy to work w/ Fontenon (GM) and then showing the text to the GM. Made it look like Bill was grovelling. Brutal.

I guess the only person who could have made that offer is lying and Boomer who has no association with the Falcons is being railroaded.

Well, you would know all about Liars.

Yes and whomever told the guy that told the guy that Boomer heard it from was wrong. No offer. One team with interest out of 7 other openings. I appreciate what Bill did here and will root for him on the off chance he gets a job next year but with him and Vrabel being left out in the cold it is clear the league is moving in a new direction. Most NFL owners are billionaire alpha male businessmen. Most front offices have a decent contingent of analytics, quant, and nerds. None of these demographics want another alpha with all the power in the mix.
Im not buying it.

BB had 2 face to face interviews and he supposedly texts Blank that he would be happy to work with his GM ? Rightttt. Blank had a choice between a 6 time SB winning HC and Raheem Morris who was fired by Tampa after a 4 - 12 season.

This reeks of damage control and face saving that Morris was the Falcons first choice all along and that he beat out Belichick which is laughable.

Desperate for work. I heard that gas is getting ready to go back up.

BB texted Blank in regards to a job that he was supposedly never offered. And to make matters worse, Blank is telling everyone. BB showed up for the Atlanta interviews in a hoody and sweat pants looking homeless and smelled like MD 20-20. Blank felt sorry for him and bought BB a bowl of soup.

Blank is apparently not bright enough to realize that this makes his decision to hire Morris over BB and Vrabel even more moronic.

Oh look Triumph not getting the information he wants so he cooked up a conspiracy theory based off his feelings to coddle his own fragility.

So on brand.

Every place with a vacancy and potential vacancy passed on them. This is more about Belichick and Vrabel not being what people wanted this year than it is about one owner making a questionable decision. I know it's jarring for some people here, but the rest of the league saw the same Bill that merited getting fired here the last few years. The league moves fast and they are always going after the new trend. Not the thing that worked 7 years ago.

It's not the right job anyways. Bill should've never interviewed for it to begin with. Even though they are a small market, Buffalo is a team Bill should go to or the Cowboys. If I'm Buffalo, Mr. Complainer McDermott is already out the door and Bill is hired to kick that team in the ass. Also, why not torment his former team like Parcells and Belichick did to the Pats in the late 90's?
Bill wants that wins record in the worst way. We know that now because he told the Falcons that he was fine with just being the HC. Luckily he has the loss record sewn up already so he doesn't have to worry about that one.

How exactly did Tuna **** (and his sidekick Bill) torment the Pats? I don't remember that. The Pats lost more then they won against the Jets but they still made the playoffs two of the three years. That doesn't classify as being tormented by them. The only time the Pats were tormented was when Tuna **** was negotiating with the Jets during the 96 season and kicking to Desmond Howard in the SB.

I’m in Atl….unsurprisingly the city is divided on this.

Most black Atlanta fans believe the Falcons got it right

Most white Fans believe they didn’t.

None of that really matters.

Morris will need to get the Falcons in the playoffs and fast or EVERYONE will turn on him and Blank.

Winner or Loser is what really matters.
Atlanta has always been like that. There was a huge contingent of fans that hated Matt Ryan for being a white QB replacing Michael Vick. Even when he had that great 2016 season, there were always detractors because of that.

Tbf he basically had some random dude not associated with his organization make some nonsense statement that a coach who every team passed on that just got fired actually secretly left him at the alter. Why wouldn't he go hard in correcting that. This whole thing sucks for Bill now too because next year teams that need coaches are going to start wondering "if I don't hire this guy and go in a different direction, is someone in the media going to try to make it look like my new coach was a second choice and make my org look bad". There were already teams that straight up were comfortable never talking to Bill about who the HC would be.

Their last season with a winning record was 2017, they went 10-6 and won a playoff game. Since then they have won 39 games in 6 seasons, have been 3rd or 4th in their division each of the past 4 seasons.

It’s hard to take anything they say or do seriously when they hire Morris over Belichick and keep Fontenot in place and pull a transparent CYA scam with McKay (”stepping away” from their football operations for the second time).

The more they talk about what went down with BB the worse they look. I feel bad for their fans.
So in these 6 seasons of which you speak Atlanta has averaged 6.5 wins/season. In the 4 seasons since Bill kicked Tom Brady to the curb the Patriots have 29 wins in 4 seasons, 7.25 wins/season. Atlanta isn't hiring based on what the HC of the NEP did 5, 6, 7 , 8 years ago.

These are things some fans can't accept. The mystique that Bill is some sort of miracle worker that gives every team a chance at the Super Bowl died over the last 4-5 years. We don't even need to get into the Brady argument. He had 3 losing seasons and the one season he made a wildcard spot his team got humiliated and never forced the opposing team to punt.

That's the first question Bill has to answer for when other teams consider him. The last time he got asked it, he basically said "look at the last 20 years". Well that doesn't fly for teams looking forward and prepping for the next 5 years. That's before you get into the Matt Patricia hire, the draft picks, the offensive performance in general, why the special teams tanked this year.

Ironically, the place where Bill's past held the most weight in him being employed.... was here. This was the franchise where ownership had a reason to be indebted to Bill and a reason to believe he had the infrastructure and culture in place to turn the clock back. This was also the place where you would have a portion of the fanbase that would go to bat for him no matter what happened. Bill has a bad season somewhere else and the fans are going to just turn on him and call him a fraud who was carried by Brady. Bill has to build and get buy in for his culture somewhere else. That doesn't happen overnight. And nobody in another front office is going to care about 6 Super Bowls he won with another team. So the fact that it ultimately didn't work out here was a bad omen to begin with.

I'm guessing Blank isn't outright lying but I do wonder why he felt the need to go on record like that? It's not like Bill is running around calling out ATL. Seems petty. Wether there was an official offer or not there were two interviews and a lot of interest from both sides and now only one feels the need to deny things.

The owner doth protest too much, methinks.

Whatever anyone believes, Blank has put out something of a definitive word on this and staked his spot with Morris. If Morris doesn't deliver, the mystique of BB will haunt him because he's saying he had a chance to hire him and went with a guy who didn't help them get out of the mire.

Who knows if BB could have done wonders with the Falcons or not? The perception is that BB has "been there, done that" in ways the Falcons and their fans know all too well and has a higher probability of coaching the Falcons to success, especially if he's not "buying the groceries". If Morris fails, which is a reasonable probability, it will actually somehow make Belichick look better.

I work with clients in Atlanta quite a bit, and there was excitement about Belichick. The feeling I hear from them now is one of resignation..."the Falcons are doing Falcon things...FML"

Blank would have been better served to keep quiet on this one.

You and a handful of other posters on here are the only people that think a 72 year old coach that is 29-39 in his last 4 seasons is some hot commodity. There were 7 openings outside of New England and he only interviewed for one and the one he interviewed for also interviewed at least 13 other candidates. You disparage Raheem Morris for going 4-12 and spending 13 years ago paying his dues to get another job while Bill went 4-13 5 minutes ago.

The only ones doing damage control are Team Bill.

I think this post answers your question.

This required a new thread when there’s a 40 page thread right next door?

Yay, the BB haters can continue celebrating.

BB and Rich McKay don’t get along, if Blank made it clear from the start McKay was entrenched then it was a nonstarter… nothing else needed to be said.

BB will be back next season, and the numbnuts celebrating Bill taking a short vacation will be nowhere to be found.
