Are there veterans who don't fit in as part of the future?

Vrabel, Wolfe, McDaniels have all said that everyone on the roster will have to fight for a roster spot with the exception of the top 1/4 of the roster (Maye, Gonzalez, Onwenu, maybe Dugger, early/mid rd draftees, top FAs).

No one else should feel safe. Most of the roster will have to earn their spot, including many veterans.

Tavai is the anti "Patriot Way" player and needs to go. Vrabel has kept his word and gotten rid of most of the "entitled" players with only him and Bourne left. If he makes the team, this will be his last season as his cap hit is more favorable next season.
On what basis do you see Bourne as “entitled”? I’ve not seen anything in his attitude that seems he feels entitled? Tavai’s statements last year about fans knowing there place seemed elitist and entitled but I’ve seen nothing like the from Bourne.

Bourne called the Patriots organization dysfunctional only to re-sign soon after. Before that, I think he was also the one complaining about the offense Patricia was running as well.

If Onwenu shows up fat, out of shape and unmotivated, he'll be gone.

I think his contract makes that unlikely, its something like like 27million in dead money if he gets cut before June 1, and like 20 after. Trading Post June 1st is only like 7.5.

I don't think he is going anywhere.

If you're a veteran, you better outplay the rookies. It's a new regime, the tie always goes to the rookie. Lowe, Sow, Epps, Bourne, Jennings, Bradbury, and Hollins all should be playing like they belong here. They don't get training wheels.
Yes. the old veterans will need to beat out all the rookies that Vrabel brought in, especially on Offense: Moses, Bradbury, Schweitzer, Diggs Holland and Dobbs. ??? And ai agree that no one is beating out Campbell, Henderson and Wilson.

In a new regime, the tie goes to the players brought in by the new coach.
==========
Who do you think can beat out Lowe for backup LT?

Who do you think will beat out Wilson and Bradbury at canter?

And he was right in both instances. I guess that qualifies him to be cut.

This is going out there, but I wonder about Pop. If they watch Maye's interceptions, and they see the INT that targeted Pop against the Rams.....what do they think about that play? Regardless of the route run, he should be looking for the ball while running through a hole in a zone.

Historically Josh has liked slot guys that can read and find holes in the middle of the field, get open and make yourself available. Pop can be explosive, but I'm just not sure if he is going to be a piece that Josh loves as much as the fans do.

I guess it doesn't mean he is going to be gone, but I'm not sure if his position is as solid as a lot of people think.

I've wondered how well Anfernee Jennings fits. Vrabel may want one run defender on the roster but I think Chaisson and Swinson may have the advantage in Vrabel's attacking defense.

You see those as entitled? I’d call that speaking truth to power.

Fact that he’s still here says a lot about both the veracity of his statements and his evaluation as a player by the organization, I’d say.
Trying to embarrass your coach by calling him out saying he doesn't know what he's doing is what got him exiled in 2022. Bourne hasn't done anything in his career to warrant telling coaches what they should be doing.

He's most likely out of the starting rotation. Landry will be a stand up Edge player with White playing the opposite side with his hand in the dirt. However, Jennings best bet if they make Landry a Tully Banta-Cain type player where he only comes in on obvious passing downs. If they go with Landry as a starter, then Jennings doesn't have a place on this team because he's atrocious at rushing the passer.

Reiss using "probably safe" doesn't really dispute that poster's questioning whether "his position is as solid as a lot of people think"

I know I said something about it a week or two back, but people adding their own headlines to reporter's tweets (or whatever) to create certainty where none exists pisses me off.

I think it's a valid question of how well he fits, I just don't see the numbers there to seriously think he'll get cut. The other EDGE defenders are:

Landry - ok, clearly above Jennings
Chaisson - low cost, 1 year FA signing who's very obviously a situational pass rush specialist as opposed to everydown guy
White - has looked completely inept as an EDGE defender setting the edge and looks better as an inside rusher, at least situationally
Swinson - day 3 draft pick rookie who projects to be a pass rush specialist first rather than every down guy, if he ever does become anything

Jennings edge setting really is a unique skill set in that position group and 5 EDGE defenders is hardly a lot to keep, especially factoring in that White likely plays inside some. Prior to last year Jennings played some on STs too.

I do agree that Jennings likely is eventually phased out, but hard for me to see it this year just with the numbers at the position. They'd save like $1M by cutting him after they backfill the roster spot, which is nothing. NEXT year, cap space is tigher overall and they save like $4M if he's cut so it's a little more material. I do expect him gone next year but I'd be surprised if it's this year.

There may be plays where it happens but Vrabel's defense, I believe, will be about winning the gap rather than setting the edge more often than not.

Sure but with White I mean "setting the edge" more as keeping the QB in the pocket. White just sprints upfield everytime and lets the QB out of the pocket. That's dumb in any scheme.

What the plan likely is at WR is if Williams, Chism (even Diggs) blow it up at camp and they look legit, guys like Bourne are expendable. If Williams, Chism or Diggs fail to impress, Bourne is safe.

Isn't his cap hit bearable if they let him go after this season?
