If you really feel that we MUST have a vet backup, I'd rather have BB pick of the phone and call Testeverde or Bledsoe. Those guys come for free (no draft picks lost) and could probably do just as good a job if they were ever needed.
I want to see more of Gutierez and O'Connell before deciding how screwed we are at backup QB.
I've seen enough of Cassel though.
Bledsoe looked exponentially worse than Cassel the last time he backed up Brady. And worse yet the last time he started for Dallas. And he retired because he has no interest in being a backup. Flutie retired because he had no interest in being an emergency 3rd string QB, which is what he was to Cassel by the end of 2005. Testaverde retired because in Carolina he finally painfully came to the conclusion that he can't get anything done any more.
