Anyone else have a good feeling about this year's draft?

My problem is that the team lost a significant amount.

Not really. Asante is at least moderately overrated, Colvin is a loss, yes, but AD might ultimately be an upgrade. Losing Stallworth will have no impact on our offense, and frankly, Chad Jackson might be an improvement.

Add Mayo, Crable, Hobson to the linebacking crew, I think this team has gotten stronger than the one that went 18-1.

I think the (extremely exciting in my mind) pick of Mayo puts a nice gloss over the entire class. I don't know enough about some of the later rounders to be overjoyed with the actual players, but I certainly am excited about the positions taken.

Asante is a very good CB
Stallworth was a good rotational/depth player
Ditto Gay
Colvin was Colvin

And on the whole we had good injury/suspension luck on the season, Seymour/Harrison/Morris notwithstanding, unless Brady's ankle was a difference-maker in the Super Bowl.

If Mayo is one of those rookie LBs who plays like Pro Bowler immediately, his addition and Hobson's probably still won't quite make up for the loss of a Pro Bowl CB plus Colvin.

But in truth, the talent shift one way or the other is less than the swing that can be produced by injury luck from one year to the next.

This is my feeling. The three big losses are Asante, Colvin & Stallworth.

Asante obviously you won't replace straight away, but I don't think the loss will be as big as it is currently perceived.

IMO, Colvin will be missed more. As has been stated over and over on this board, it significantly hurt our pass rush and made Vrable much less effective.

However, hopefully Crable will be able to add an immediate boost in passing downs, as the defensive rookies who have the fastest impact seem to be pass rushers.

As far as Stallworth, I think most here are (not unrealistically) hoping Jackson can fill his shoes.

I really like Wheatley and Crable.:rocker:
