Anybody else concerned about the DL casualties?

Re: Anyone else concerned about DL?

The Patriots are clearly concerned. As long as the Patriots can continue jumping out on top of opponents, things should be alright. If a running team can break out on top of the Patriots, or can slow down the offense, though, the Tobin bridge is going to get mighty crowded with pedestrians.

Re: Anyone else concerned about DL?

It is if we are playing the Ravens or the Falcons in the SB.

Re: Anyone else concerned about DL?

a little bit

Re: Anyone else concerned about DL?

I am concerned, but not too concerned at this point. This defense has played well in the last month or two without Pryor, Wright, Deadrick, or Brace for all or parts of the time.

Re: Anyone else concerned about DL?

I sure am.

The Pats finished the season ranked 22nd in CHFF's Defensive Hog Index.

On the bright side, Love has been a pleasant surprise.

You're right but, on the other hand, it's been:

Colts
Lions
Jets
Chicago in the snow
Green Bay
Buffalo
Miami

Which hasn't exactly been a murderer's row of running teams. That's why I'd like to avoid Baltimore in the playoffs. Give me the Chiefs or Jets, please. The Jets running game is in the toilet, and the Chiefs O-line is lousy, meaning that it will only be dealing with the RB himself (Charles), and BB can game plan enough to stop him.

Re: Anyone else concerned about DL?

Not sure how you can watch the Pats and NOT be concerned about the D-Line. Our run-stuffing DE is out for the year on IR, Deaderick has been suspended, Pryor has been in and out of the line-up, and Wright has had a very bad concussion for some time now. We've typically been able to scheme around it, but it would be nice to get a couple of these guys back for the playoffs.

Re: Anyone else concerned about DL?

I am concerned. It's the one question mark. At least if Pryor can play, big vince can come off the field in passing situations. None of this matters, however, IF the offense continues to steamroll people.

Re: Anyone else concerned about DL?

You have to be concerned. We dont want another Ray rice 83-yard TD run on the 1st freagin play again. We need those guys back or atleast a couple of them.

Hopefully these new guys can fill the roles

Banged up defensive front seven

Unless I'm mistaken, the only defensive front 7 players who haven't been on any recent injury reports are:

  • All the ILBs
  • Ninkovich
  • Wilfork
  • Warren (and he was healing up toward the end of the season)
  • Love
  • Cohen

Yikes.

I suspect some ILBs (or DBs) will be getting OLB/nickel DE reps in practice this week.

Re: Banged up defensive front seven

Cunningham is back to practice and that UFL dude (the names are getting hard to keep up with) now has another two weeks of system prep. I think we're alright. Might see Arrington play DE once or twice, though... lol

Re: Banged up defensive front seven

TBC, Cunningham, Moore are all injured in ways that could hamper their effectiveness. I expect all to try to play, but we can only speculate as to how injured they really are. Murrell is available in reserve or for STs. Wilfork, Love, Warren, Deaderick all appear relatively healthy, but if the O cannot control the clock, we could use more big bodies. Still, I recall when DLs used to play the whole game.

Re: Banged up defensive front seven

How long have these guys been banged up? Outside of the GB game you haven't allowed many points recently ...

Because we've had guys brought in off the street and late draft choices/UDFA playing well when they get the chance. Our DL has been a shambles the entire season, pretty sure Vince is the only one to play every game (thank god).

This is what depth does for you.

Depth and some lucky finds at the town dump. I'm not complaining, but whoever is in charge of sifting the trash for players has done excellent work this year.

His name is Eric Moore. Remember his name because he is going to do great things with this team. He will be making plays this Sunday, you can count on that.

That's right. Man, that guy has been in a bit of beast mode ever since he got here. I hope he gets ten sacks and a FF on Sunday. Sack Snackcheese back to the NCAA.

Requoting a post that got merged into this partially-related thread.

Thoughts on OLB health, anybody?'
