So I was thinking the other day ... what are the chances McG gets cut by Cleveland? What is his cap #? I thought it was pretty hefty ...

Anyway, he'd be a PERFECT addition if he is looking for one more ring.

I'd feel a whole lot better if he was coming in of the bench at OLB and Seau an ILB reserve.

we already have Colvin-Vrabel-Thomas who play OLB..if Willie played inside..itd be an A++

the has been injured and cannot get on the field not sure we have more space in IR.

If we are playing all-time fantasy team LBs I'd prefer to go with Andre Tippet or Nick Buonaconti than WMG.

Great leader, but we have enough OLB's

Did I miss something?

What backup LBs currently rostered do folks think are a better option at OLB than McGinest?

This team has prospered from having six proven LBs on the roster before. If Willie could be brought back at a good price, I'd love it.

AD would probably be strictly an ILB if Willie can still play and everybody stays healthy -- but that's not necessarily a bad thing, and anyway it's a bunch of ifs.

On the other hand -- if he hasn't been cut yet, he probably won't be unless he seems seriously impaired physically.

IF he came back, I think he has to play OLB, Thomas would be better suited to play inside.

inside takes away Thomas's tremendous pass rush ability. I rather see him outside

At what point would he not be ideal to bring back? When he's 40? 45? 38?

Now?

I thought he had slowed down alot his last year here...now it's 2 years later? At what point do you give some younger players a chance to play?

agreed, I'd love Willie as a platoon player

Vrable Colvin and Thomas.

Let it go, Willie is played out and he wouldn't want to come back anyway. He's made some pretty bitter comments.

Future, not past.

He said back ups, you're listing starters.

Len Pasquerelli did a piece in his notes column last Friday saying McGinest would probably get cut because he is a Crennel guy and wasn't much of a teacher last year. If cut, I can't see him going anywhere but the Pats unless he retires.

He would be a good rotational guy.

You're right. McGinest couldn't hold Pierre Wood's or Justin Roger's jock.
I didn't say that. I said that in 2003 Willie was great. In 2007, or probably 2008 as I think the Browns gave him a big signing bonus last year, he would not be a factor.

I certainly would not cut Woods in order to sign WMG, next year or this. That would be moronic. I don't know about Rogers, but if he has anything, I would not cut an up-and-coming future talent for an over the hill player UNLESS that player could contribute. We are loaded at OLB. If he could play inside, it might be different, but he plays outside.

Why would you want him anyway? Was he that good playing with Cleveland last year? Just say Good-bye, and thank you, and move on.

I just don't understand this misconception that we are "loaded" at OLB. Thomas & Colvin are great starters, agreed.

And Vrable, currently listed as the starting ILB, is a great OLB. But he can't play two positions at the same time.

We have NO PROVEN BACKUPs to OLB. I don't consider a starting ILB a OLB backup.

If Thomas gets hurt in the AFCC I'd feel a whole lot better with McGinest coming off the bench than Pierre Woods.

I'm pretty sure Belichick would feel the same way.

As to what McG did in Cleveland, I don't know, I didn't see many games so can't comment. But I know that when he signed with them last year there were more than a few people worried about how we would replace him.

He hadn't lost that much of a step when he left the Pats, so unless you assume the human body suffers a huge debilitating blow when it turns from 35 to 36, I see no reason why he couldn't be an excellent rotational player.

Hell, Seau was a more than serviceable player at a more physically demanding position at the age of like 40.

you know there was a time before the Colts goal line stand and the all time sack leader for the Pats in the playoffs, Willie Mcnugget was always on the verge of getting cut and spent more time clubbing with Ben Coates and Terry Glenn, then being a elephant in tickle me pete's defense.. Thanks for the memories Willie, but no desire to see him with the Pats again..

If you bring back McGinest and cut Pierre Woods, you strengthen the OLB position but weaken special teams. Woods was very good in that area.

The age of McGinest does factor into this. We need a future at the OLB position. Woods may not be but McGinest absolutely is not.

If we decided to carry only two TEs, would you be happy to see David Thomas get cut to keep Kyle Brady? What if the team announced that they had strongly considered moving up for Stewart Bradley but decided Junior Seau was good for one more year?

Again, Woods may not turn into much but the potential that he or other young players might is why some here aren't anxious to bring Willie back.
