It adds some context, though, when you consider the reasons why a person might file a civil suit regarding a serious crime.
a) Did she go to police, but not in a timely manner to permit a definitive analysis with a rape kit, and this is why she is going the civil route? no
b) Did she go to the police and they were not helpful, dismissive, or unsympathetic? No.
c) Had anyone else reported to the police similar activity, before or after? No. Why is this relevant? We know that rapists don't typically commit one rape and then always stay on the straight and narrow over a period of YEARS. The power and control generally makes it a habit and there is a track record.
So what's left is
d) she was too traumatized and/or embarrassed to come forward, until the point where physical evidence was absent; or
e) this is indeed a money grab
Anything else?? Not seeing other possibilities, frankly
