Another article about Mac Jones

Mac would go on to play for high school coach Corky Rogers at The Bolles School, a proponent of the run-heavy Wing-T offense. Rogers coached 45 years, going 465-54-1, winning 10 Florida State Championships and sending 150 players on to play college football.

A notoriously tough coach who required all-white socks and shoes and loved to throw his quarterbacks into the Oklahoma drill, Rogers pushed Mac more than just about anyone who'd ever played under him, but it developed a special bond between the player and old-school coach.

Rogers and Saban definitely prepped Jones for the Pats. Rogers was a hardened, old school nut job and the bold portion highlights one reason why. South Florida is the football hot bed of the state. Aquinas, Pahokee, Glades Day and Central, Chaminade, Lakeland, Coral Gables, Miami Central, Booker T. Washington, etc. Bolles has won more state championships than all of them. We were really familiar with Rogers down there when I played ball. Toward the end of his career, he was owned by Booker T. Washington, though. Just too much of a talent and speed advantage.

I just googled what the Oklahoma Drill is, and the first dozen or so results is all about why it is (or should be) banned. That says a lot.

The Oklahoma drill is what football is about. A situation where players can show the physicality and aggression needed to earn playtime and allows the coach a better look at what is going on in individual math up. We often ran 1 vs 1 rather than the 2 vs 2 version which has the potential for running backs to get crushed. This story really drives home Mac's toughness.

Having the quarterback do an Oklahoma drill does seem like a useless idea though.

Not to diminish Bolles' championships because the athletes this school attracts in just about every sport are uber-elite(see below), but the quality of opponent their teams face during their regular seasons are surprisingly weak and real challengers only appear at the end of their state tourney runs.
Besides Bolles, NW Florida lacks all-in sports high schools found in S. Florida, Tampa/Orlando area.
Regarding S. Florida, American Heritage-Plantation has elevated itself to the top rung in football and baseball.
------------------------
Bolles High School Swimming & their club swim team are so loaded with talent yearly, they have fielded multiple 4 man relay teams that featured 3 future Olympic gold medalists who won their golds not long after graduating high school.
Dressell (2), Murphy (4), Schooling (1) beating Phelps in the Fly

Bolles is just a big fish in a much smaller pond up here. Same with Apopka in Central Florida. The cream of the crop is in South Florida. Good call on Heritage. I had forgotten about them.
