Am I the only one psyched to see Schooler play some Defense?

I did a quick google search and he's 6'1, 203 lbs (I think he's bigger than that) and he runs a 4.43. I don't care if the receiver makes the catch, I just want to see him jack some people....

Really doubt we'll see him take any actual reps on D during the regular season. It's the norm for ST'ers to take snaps on D during preseason to get some experience in case one of them has to plug a hole on D, should multiple injuries happen.

I'd love it if he could develop there. Alas, the few looks he gets on D are just emergency training. Can't develop with just a few looks when competing against guys who pour all they got into it. It's just too late at this point. He took Slater's baton, embraced 100% being a ST "star" and thus set the ceiling on his NFL career.

Now his path is still going to make him millions instead of possibly being out of the league already if he'd gone all-in on becoming a defender. So it may be he made the right decision. I just prefer it when guys shoot for the stars.

I think he'll play a little defense and a lot of ST's, but unless there's an injury to Dugger or Peppers he will be hard pressed to find many defensive snaps.

It will be good to have him on the depth chart behind these guys though. He is a lot like Slater in that he is a plus athlete. He stands out among the 2's and 3's in these preseason games.

I don’t. Our defensive backfield’s gonna suck enough as it is.

Agree. Hope he plays some FS in the last preseason game.

Why not, I guess… But if he’s taking Regular-season snaps back there then that’s a FO fail.

Yes, Schooler was a nice story but if he can't beat out Bledsoe or Pettus, we don't need him.

The defensive backfield was good last year without Gonzo and Marcus Jones… but they’re going to suck now?

Are you taking about another team?

The Past two preseason games Schooler was ahead of both on the depth chart. Seems to reason unless he has a huge drop off he’s already ahead of them.

I remember way back when Matt Stevens was a special teams only guy who managed to sneak up the depth chart at safety and actually made a few big hits in one of the early Superbowl seasons.

Edelman would obviously be the poster boy for winning a roster spot on STs first before getting a chance to play on offense.

How could you not be rooting for Schooler to give us more. Just fun to watch kids earn it like that. Seeing him at practice he probably needs a little more work still.

He's buried behind guys who just got paid.

One of your worst posts

We are tops at safety. Hawkins is a major improvement over Mills.

We have Gonzo, Jon Jones and Marcus Jones returning at CB. And we have acquired Marco Wilson which makes a solid group of four corners. I would add that personally I like Wade in the slot. He looked pretty good last year.

THAT MAKES EIGHT
that are far from a unit that is going to suck. And most of us like the secondary coaches. They are solid.

Yes, I would sign Gilmore if we were a playoff contender. As it is we have developmental youngsters who may/should get few reps: Austin, Bolden and Dial.

Dial was getting picked on like I've never seen before late in the game Thursday he's headed to the practice squad and we'll see him next camp.

I agree. I have no strong feelings about Austin, Bolden or Dial. However, I also expect to see Dial on the Practice Squad.

Schooler & his kind are football dinosaurs, like the backup Fullback… But as long as there’s only one of him around, then there’s little harm in that, or whatever…

Some here were also frothing at the prospect of the rugby player getting Regular-season snaps at Strong Safety; remind me again how that turned out…
