Am I the only one psyched to see Schooler play some Defense?

I agree. I have no strong feelings about Austin, Bolden or Dial. However, I also expect to see Dial on the Practice Squad.
I was hoping to see a little more from Austin and Bolden but I think one can be our 5th corner and the other can probably make it to our PS too and they'd be first up before Dial for action.

Gonzo, Jones, Jones, and Marco Wilson will be a very good 4.

Schooler & his kind are football dinosaurs, like the backup Fullback… But as long as there’s only one of him around, then there’s little harm in that, or whatever…

Some here were also frothing at the prospect of the rugby player getting Regular-season snaps at Strong Safety; remind me again how that turned out…
Ebner was a fine special teamer. There was no reason for him to get reps at another position, ditto for Slater, Schooler and so many more.

I understand that you don't consider gunner or protector to be real football positions. You think that it is more important to be the 6th WR or the 11th DB. Or, you think players should be able to play more than one position. Must a starting RB play another position? a WR? Of course not.

I agree that there are fewer special teams spots. Maybe there used to 5 or 6 and now there are fewer. LOL to comparison to backup fullbacks. That total has been zero for decades. However, now we don't even have starting fullbacks. That simply means that RB;s, TE's and WR's need to be able to block. However, 1 to zero isn't the same as 5 to zero.

No mention Schooler was a penalty waiting to happen on special teams last season with bonehead play after bonehead play drawings flags galore.
Praying the Mayo Mural has cured said affliction.

Why not? There are certain pleasures to be had in rooting for a lousy team. One of them is getting to see marginal players get a shot with the hope that they might not prove marginal after all. There were all sorts of sub-great but intriguing players to root for during other of the Pats' down periods. Remember the "Stanley Steamer," Steve Grogan, Mack Herron?

I do… Not sure what those three have to do with this particular one, however.

The thing is, he showed that he could play safety, at least the in-the-box run-stopping kind. Plus he had absolutely insane athleticism for a DB.

Absolutely. Went to my first game in 65, season tickets 67-82, saw some good games and some bad games. Always enjoyed their successes and disappointed when they weren't successful.
