Just sayin.

Could we have worked out a contract if that was his biggest problem, or was trading him the only option.

I will die knowing that we could have signed him months ago.

You could make it happen with money. Mankins is not a once in a generation talent that completely changes how opposing defenses play.

As time goes on, I'm having a much harder time believing that this trade was purely about money.

The Patriots don't want this guy beyond this year. Why would they??

I think it started with money and then got emotional as time went on. It could have been prevented by extending the beast, IMO.

Against bad teams in warm weather. Look at his numbers game by game.
Look at his playoff numbers.

Teams were specifically gameplanning to take him out of the game in the playoffs. Do you not think that, in drawing double coverage, he assisted other receivers (like Welker) in getting open?

Moss wanted to retire a Patriot as long as the Pats paid him what he wanted. Guys don't change agents the summer before his contract year if he has every intention of retiring on the team he is currently on.

Personally, I am not thrilled with him being traded in season, but I don't think he was worth keeping beyond this year if what he gave us the first month is what we are going to get. Whether he is just getting old or the Pats aren't throwing his way, he is getting covered too much and not worth being paid among the highest paid players to mostly be a decoy.

who really cares what moss wanted to retire as?

the success of the offense with moss as a primary target has been fleeting since 2007. he is past his prime and that option would only grow older and less effective over time.

this is no different than seymour. if the status quo is not going to get you there, then your next notion is to improve on the future

You could make it happen with money. Mankins is not a once in a generation talent that completely changes how opposing defenses play, when he's convinced he's appreciated and really, really wants to.

Fixed your post for you.

I'm really disappointed in this trade and wonder who will take over in his place? Even if his number of catches has dwindled, he still was an incredibly important cog in the offense, requiring double coverage and stretching the field. Im distraught

I'm going to leave this little piece here, written by Tedy Bruschi about a week ago....

I know Moss can rub people the wrong way with things he says and when he says them. Two weeks ago, he was talking about his contract after a big win over the Bengals. He's been criticized for that, but at the same time, I hope the fans in New England realize that they're watching one of the best wide receivers in the history of the NFL. He now has 151 career regular-season touchdown catches. Jerry Rice (197) and Moss are the only players in NFL history with at least 150 touchdown catches. Moss also has 14,604 receiving yards, passing Marvin Harrison for the fifth-most receiving yards in NFL history on Sunday. Moss is in the conversation when we talk about the best receivers in the history of the NFL. When he is gone, no longer playing for the Patriots, we won't see catches by anyone -- whether it's a draft pick or someone else they bring in -- like he made last week against Darrelle Revis. No one will be making catches like we saw Sunday -- in the middle of three Bills defenders, teammate Brandon Tate and an official -- for a touchdown. It's not something that should be taken for granted. What we're seeing, what we're witnessing, is something that no receiver will ever do again in New England.
