Normally, I would eschew trading for a big-name receiver. However, Lamb and Aiyuk are young franchise receivers perfect for building around Maye. Wolf needs to step up and make the deal if one can be had at a reasonable price because they will never hit free agency.

while I agree, that both are 4-5 years windows, and that the cost of the contract is not an issue, for me, the 1st round pick is 100% off the table. has to be rd 2 and players. for instance I would send the Pats #2 and Mapu, although neither Dallas or SanFran would do that.
Pats more than likely holding a top 5 pick in 2025. that's a franchise OT. that's off the table for any deal out there

I posted the article below from Andrew Brandt, an actual NFL GM for over two decades, where he discussed how the cap doesn't matter and that it is cash spending that matters. Wozzy disregarded a guy that has worked as an agent and an NFL personnel guy because he apparently knows how these things work better than Brandt lol.

Which gives you a year or two of breathing room… then you have to start trading away guys like Tyreek Hill and Stephon Diggs.

Anything that forces teams to make tough roster decisions and let great players walk out the door is not nothing.

Brandt was the Vice President of Player Finance and General Counsel… he was a lawyer who crafted contracts.

He was never at any point an NFL GM. Moreover he was never in personnel nor built a roster.

I understand why a first rounder is too much for Aiyuk, but don't get why a 2nd plus paying for him is too much.

If the team is lucky enough to hit on Polk, which statistically is a long shot, they will be paying him Aiyuk money in a few years anyway.

It's not ok to trade the 34th best college player for an almost sure thing when you have a franchise QB with no veteran receiver (not really counting Juju)?

We have no idea if we have a franchise QB and I'd imagine that's a huge reason why it's hard to feel confident pulling the trigger on an expensive WR.

They are making the right choice to run it back one more year. Aiyuk's value will skyrocket if he has another good season. I'm in the minority and think he can fight the Franchise tag like Nick Foles with all the upcoming FA's the 49ers have in addition to paying Purdy. If they didn't want to pay his price tag now, they won't be able to do it later.

Speculation is Aiyuk doesn’t want to go to Cleveland or NE. I think he stays for this season and leaves in 2025 FA. The 9ers may tag him, but players are getting smarter and he could prove they can’t negotiate in good faith on a long term deal and have the NFL force the 9ers to remove it.
