No it isn’t. Ross said after he lands on the ground the defender can jump on him and take the ball away. That isn’t correct. People are also throwing in the football move. If a receiver catches the ball and falls to the ground while holding on it is a catch. Falling to the ground and holding the ball are the football move. A defender jumping on him after that can’t cause the fumble. During he can.

True, but if there had been no defender, he would have survived the ground. "Surviving the ground" shouldn't really apply here. It was "surviving the defender". Cooks' knee and back hit the ground while he possessed it. Then as they rolled the defender wrestled it away.

Why not. Surviving the ground is a skill NFL receivers should have

If he had control for a period of time until a defender hit/landed on him and then the ball came loose, then yes it would be complete. If he hit the ground and the defender hit him at the same time and it came loose while going through the process of going to the ground and the ball came loose, then it is incomplete as described in the rule.

The Bills defense lost it because they were on the field the entire game - thanks to the 5 turnovers - in the altitude. They were completely gassed in the 4th quarter/overtime. Payton couldn't get anything going on offense (Tunnel Screen #12 went for -2 again), so he just decided to PI bait, because it was the only way they could move the ball.

Agreed. Play calling was terrible and the Bills committing all the TOs absolutely contributed. The path to the SB in the AFC could not be more widespread than I can remember especially with the news of nix being injured. If we can win today and advance.. facing Stidham who couldn't beat out cam Newton in training camp i love our chances.

I agree with everything you've said except I haven't seen video evidence of him losing control.

This is right. Cooks has to maintain control when he hits the ground, which he does. The defender has control too, but I don't see that as Cooks lost control.

Can't post a pic, it's a process to the ground. Here's the video, first 5 seconds followed by McDermott's insane rant.

Watched it multiple times. I see Cooks holding the ball before he goes down, after he goes down by contact and as hes rolling it it ripped out. I see no evidence of the ball oscillating on its own. Based on the replay, it's either not moving or obscured by the defender while hes on top of him.

I completely understand the viewpoint of "did not complete the catch once on the ground" but I don't think there is enough visual evidence to make that determination. I also see the defender with his hands on the ball prior to Cooks going down. What wasn't this ruled a contested catch? What is difference between this and the Marcus Jones play vs BUF last month?

Applying this to the play, what does "ward off an opponent" mean?. Cooks rolled on the ground after the catch. Is that warding off an opponent? What does "long enough to do so" mean?

I said it when I saw it on tv and I’ll say it now. I have no idea if it was intercepted or a completion. 50-50 in my head, so I’m not too upset either way it would have gone.
