When Reiss reviewed the 88-man roster today, he saw four likely spots for additions: DT, OG, RB and WR. He saw the most likely as DT and WR.

I agree with his analysis.

Of course, Belichick might find potential upgrades at any position, but these four stand out.

OG Brian Waters still available?

Just signed AJ Edds, ILB. He was with us two years ago. Always hurt.

Interesting. I definitely don't see RB as a need position, but I agree with the other 3. It's basically impossible to have too many guys at DT, while guard depends quite a bit, IMO, on who starts between Wendell and Connolly, as well as the plans for Cannon.

I agree with your thoughts, but I think that the RB position may be filled simply due to camp fodder. I think it's one of those positions that we probably need at least one more player.

As you said, the positions in the trenches are always in need this time of year too.

Then again, Chris Price says Schiano waived former Rutgers G Desmond Wynn today-Pats have an open roster spot...

I disagree with needing a WR, if anything we're spoiled for choice so far. Definitely some insurance at DT is needed however.

Definately have a need at QB

All of 2010 and all of 2012 on I.R.; that does make you wonder how well he would hold up if ever needed. On the other hand this is an odd numbered year, and in 2011 he played in 11 NFL games: two with the Pats and nine with the Colts.

Patriots Sign LB A.J. Edds

Edds, 6-4, 256 pounds, originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round draft pick (199th overall) of the Miami Dolphins out of Iowa in 2010. The 25-year-old spent his rookie season on Injured Reserve with a knee injury. Edds was released by Miami on Sept. 5, 2011, and claimed off waivers by New England on Sept 7. He played in two games for the Patriots before being released and signed to the practice squad. The Indianapolis Colts signed Edds to their 53-man roster off the New England practice squad on Sept. 28 and he played in nine games for the Colts. Edds spent the entire 2012 season on Injured Reserve with a knee injury.

Indianapolis Colts: A.J. Edds

2011:

  • Saw action in 11 games (two with the Patriots and nine with the Colts). Finished the season with 10 tackles (two solo) and two special teams stops.
  • In two games with the Patriots, made one tackle against San Diego (9/18).
  • Made his Colts debut at Tampa Bay (10/3), seeing action on special teams.
  • Saw action at linebacker against Jacksonville (11/13) and finished with one tackle.
  • Set a career-high with eight tackles (one solo) at New England (12/4) entering the game at middle linebacker

College:

  • Totaled 226 tackles (76 solo), 12.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, seven interceptions, 12 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries at Iowa.
  • In 2009, serving as a team captain, was voted a second team All-Big Ten selection by league coaches.
  • Selected to participate in the 2009 Senior Bowl.

Bill does love those college team captains...
