Some people are going overboard one way and you are going overboard the other. The Pats actually did pretty well week 1 this year going away from Welker.

This offense will survive the loss of Welker. Will it be as good? Probably not. Will it still be a a top offense in the league. Most likely. Most likely, it won't be the best offense in the league this season, but it could be somewhere in 2-5. If the defense improves enough, that could be enough to win the Super Bowl. Maybe more so than with the top offense and weaker defense.

I totally agree with this and made the exact same point in another thread about the opening game. I am not worried about the Patriots not having enough weapons.

I am very worried about reliability.

Edelman, Amendola, Hernandez and Gronk have one thing in common the last 2 years.

The sky is not falling here folks, we all love Welker, but as we know by now we never fall in love with the veterans..

I suspect that the offense will be different, and Amendola will not be exclusively used in Welker's spot.. he will fill different roles.

The offense needs to be different than it has been...

One thing is true -- Brady has developed a Garnett-esque tendency to freeze out receivers he doesn't click with right away. I remember a few years ago watching that preseason game where Mallett was chucking it all over to Taylor Price and thinking, "Wouldn't it be nice if Brady were a young QB anxious to throw to absolutely any wide receiver on an NFL field?" Because the old Tom Brady would have thrown to anyone. Billionaire Tom seems pretty picky.

Unless something has changed, TFB was never involved in the scouting, drafting and front office decisions on how money was spent. Why would he be this time?

Will all the money freed up by Tom's contract be used by BB, Bob Kraft and Co.? Yes, yes it will. Will it be used on both offense and defense to provide what BB thinks gives them the best chance with the 53-man roster to win? Yep, pretty sure it will be.

So I rather doubt TFB signed that contract with an insistence the WWW was re-signed or is gnashing his teeth thinking Bob's going to put the money into a new bauble for his mistress.

Noise to generate clicks.

:bricks:

Name the receivers that Brady's frozen out who have gone on to be anything in the NFL...

You forgot add that these guys always find a way are not tough enough to suck it up and play 16 games or 19 games and help there qb`s.

Jeebus.

You want WRs and TEs playing with a broken arm? A broken clavicle?

For God's sake, the reason Amendola ended up on IR in 2011 is that he rushed back too soon.

But don't you see? That's because he's scarred them psychologically with his football version of the silent treatment! Because every receiver in the NFL is apparently a middle school girl.

Yeah but then he broke his collar bone and thats tough I guess and it was impressive how fast he came back from that but two weeks later he goes down with a heel injury on an overthrown ball and misses two weeks and doesn't do much for the rest of the season.

Gasper is right on the money, and Logan Mankins was right, Bob Kraft is a liar.

Gasper is right on the money, and Logan Mankins was right, Bob Kraft is a liar.

Kraft issues meaningless platitudes that some read as having encoded content that is not there. He wanted Welker but not enough to harass his HC/GM into raising the offer higher. Kraft never said, "We'll raise our offer to make him happy to be a Patriot for life". Kraft is the master of corporate speak, full of ambiguous implications, something I've learned from my experience working for CEOs to just tune out as noise.

As one who really hates what the Patriots have done, I still don't see how Kraft lied. I think you're being unfair here. If there's blame, let it rest where it belongs, which is most likely 100% on BB's shoulders.

Taylor Price is ripping the league apart too!

And the preseason is good evidence of success!

Boy, if Brady would stop looking at Welker so much, maybe he could find Branch once in a while!!!!!!!!!

Like Gaspar's agenda and attitude less and less the more I read from him which admittedly or thankfully is little. Rather than innuendo I think the whole story is simple. Bill Freakin Belichick did mot share this fan's high opinion of Welker's ability to contribute going forward. Once he admitted to himself the possible concerns about age, the DA alternative proved irresistible. I hope he's right.

Meanwhile Bill, fix your porous defense as I'd like to see another Pats Lombardi before taking the dirt nap.

Kraft repeatedly said it took two to make a deal, suggesting Welker wanted too much, and then said a week ago that he wanted Welker to be a Patriot for life when they weren't even willing to give him an offer that would make more sense for a nobody. Kraft is a liar.

Learn something today: everyone lies.

Good point..........but he is still a liar imo.

I don't fault anyone for being wicked pissed here. We're fans, not owners or GMs.

This.

This article sums up some of my feelings about all this. Maybe I'm not as strident about it, but I am pissed. I'll feel a bit better when the cap number for Amendola comes out around $3 million and we see what the team does with the extra $3 to $4 million. But he's right about some things. The line about drafting wide receivers like the Red Sox pick shortstops is right on.

The numbers that I see in my sleep are 72 and 77. Those are Welker's first downs the last two years.

Kraft didn't lie. He, as a fan, wanted Welker. The GM/coach didn't. He's smart enough to know BB etc. know a lot more than he does, so he deferred to their wisdom. That's why he hired them, to make personnel decisions.

He's the opposite of Jones.
