The Patriots can place the Franchise Tag as many times as they want, but only to one player at a time. Is that right? I wonder if this situation would encourage the Patriots to:

1) Franchise Samuel early.

2) Take offers for him.

3) Get an offer for him.

4) Remove the Franchise Tag for the purposes of trading him.

5) Apply the Franchise tag to Graham in hopes of negotiating a long-term deal. If not, try to trade him.

As I mentioned above, it would mean moving EARLY on Samuel, just to give us a time-frame that would allow all of that to happen within the two weeks. Thoughts?

I realize we're at a CJ-level of Asante/Graham/Franchise threads, but come on. Any thoughts at all on this possible strategy?

I don't think you can remove it once applied. And if you could, he would be a free agent and wouldn't require a trade. Nice try though.

I don't think you can apply the tag twice in one offseason. That would be nice if it worked though.

How about you research what a franchise tag is and educate yourself before starting another stupid franchise thread? Your question is ridiculous if you would just go look for the answer. If what you were suggesting is possible why don't you think you have heard of it b4?

It's not ridiculous. The Patriots have tagged players before and removed the tag once a deal was set. Having said that...

If I got this wrong, my apologies to all of the people who DIDN'T act like total jerks to me about it. You need to calm down and you certainly owe me an apology for this ridiculously over-the-top reaction. What are you, your girlfriend?

Holy cow did they let the whiner NEM back in here? You owe the board an apology for being of this fan site for years, having posted over 3000 times, and cant even click a link on a search engine or wikipedia to figure out how a franchise tag works? To top it all of you bump it yourself so everybody gets to look at you all over again. Isn't that being a jerk? I am perfectly calm, but this is ridiculous. Try not being a lazy poster. Try working for your info. Gee, its not that hard.

If I'm not mistaken the last day a club can use the franchise tag on a player is feb 22nd. If not used by that date the player is an truly an UFA.

Digger44's right. I've made my share of factual errors and it's absolutely the result of lazy posting. How anyone can come back and demand an apology from someone who (quite rightly) thinks you're ******ed is beyond me. Avoid saying stupid things and people will leave you alone.

Wow. I made an innocent mistake - and preemptively made it clear I wasn't sure ("The Patriots can place the Franchise Tag as many times as they want, but only to one player at a time. Is that right?") And I'm getting this kind of reaction?

I have no problem with someone correcting me, but I do have a problem with people being totally over-the-top jerks about it. Are you guys seriously suggesting that this was a proportional response to my objecting to his attitude?

Good Lord, I thought I was touchy. Am I missing something here? Am I the one overreacting?

Well, maybe not proportional, but the Southern Colonel "YOU sir have offened my honor!" comeback rarely works out well.

Not at all proportional. One might say "unnecessarily a-hole-ish."
