Got me lol

Just acknowledging that it is as important as BB made it to be and as boring to discuss as the poster was suggesting.
I remember BB telling a rookie JE.. that you catch the ball punt with your feet.. BB career starting as STs coach with the Colts... had to love it!

Well luckily the guy we hired has 28 years collective as a player and coach in the NFL. He brought all the right tools for the job and has some great assistants to help him.
My carpenter has helpers too. Same point.

I have a really skilled carpenter who does work around my house. He's the best, but every job he does is not a one-day job, and every team rebuild is not a one-year rebuild., however good the man in charge might be. We are still reluctant for some reason to acknowledge just what an abysmal failure Bill was in his last few years. He ran this thing right into the ground, and it'll take a while to build it back up.
"Already been discussed." Indeed. But some have apparently not fully assimilated the point of the discussion. The dynasty was an anomaly, and Bill's later works, particularly as GM, was a sad anomaly in his overall remarkably great career. It is, and was, what it is, to borrow a phrase.

Not every TE has to be 6-6 260. There are different roles for different skill sets and body types. Not every RB is 6-0 235, there are different roles for different guys.
This idea that you can't use an athletic 6'2 240 guy because he doesn't fit your prototype doesn't make sense, To the point that you really don't know that much about creating a roster.

If he was 6'2 240 and blocked his ass off, maybe I would consider him in Henry's role, but he doesn't. Currently we have two TEs that are flexible enough to play either TE role, and those are they guys we are looking at replacing in another year or two. It isn't as much about fitting a prototype as it is filling a role. If he was an all world receiver like Bowers you can ignore the fact he isn't a willing blocker, but he isn't.

He was a 7th round flyer that didn't show much, admittedly much of the team didn't. Now he will be competing against two UDFA TEs and a FB for his spot. I'm just saying if I was a betting man I would bet against him being on the roster.

Sorry. I don't do adulation, not since middle school.

I definitely get your point theo,

However think back to this very Same time last season.. ( sorry I hate to ask you too) we had so much worry and uncertainty.. that's all behind us. The culture is in place. Guys are back to being held accountable and more so by Guys like Andrews, Bentley and cordona being realesed being respected veterans is enough for Guys to take things seriously. This team is already leaps and bounds better than last season and they haven't even started camp yet.

If we are lucky, this year will be year one (forget about all the damned false starts, including the Mayo fiasco) of a two year rebuild. The team had fallen into terrible disrepair under late-stage Bill and under Mayo/Wolf, such disrepair that one year is very unlikely to get the job done. I'm gonna enjoy the progress, which I think is real. It's a buzzkill to harbor expectation so high for the year that they cannot be met. They may or may not make it into the post-season this year, but it doesn't really matter much to me. If they get in, they won't advance very far anyway. I want to be free to celebrate the progress. That's enough for me. I was a fan for many years before the dynasty. Back then we celebrated our hopes, whatever progress we could make. That's how it is for most fans of most teams. No point in moping around because we don't win the Super Bowl every year. Our expectations kinda got skewed there for a while, eh?

Oh yeah: here's a picture for the GIFers:

Meh. You have more to learn re. gratuitous photos of women. Here:

We just see him differently, he isn't a great athlete in any of the measured categories; he doesn't generally run routes well enough to create space; and he doesn't seem to be self driven enough to put in the extra work to learn a playbook. He can make highlight catches, and that seems to be enough for alot of people to overlook everything else.

Bell is an above average straight-line athlete, but he is small for an inline TE, doesn't really show aptitude as a blocker as a FB or inline TE; and doesn't really move well enough to be a move TE.

I think Baker's best chance to make the roster is if Diggs starts the season on PUP, I doubt Bell makes it.
Really and truly outside of diggs none of the young players have reached their potential yet. I'm fair game for UDFA or whoever else displays talent and explosiveness. If they do and display it on a consistent level they will be earn a spot even if on the PS.

I was being a bit tongue and check there, and yes guys who play STs will have an edge on the back of the roster. But i felt in the past too much emphasis was put on it here. To me the key for STs is don't be The Chargers from a few years ago when their special teams was historically bad and actively costing game.

After your top 4 STs spots LS/K/P/STs ace i think often times special teams ability is overblown. These guys are NFL players and coaches should be able to teach them a few STs teams things. Enough to do that job to a passable level. IMO Sters outside of those 4 spots should be used as a tie breaker only (and damn close to a tie). If 2 players are so close that you can't make up your mind then you look at how well they play STs. I'd rather my 5th WR have some upside as a WR and need to learn to improve his STs play than be a really good STer with little upside as a WR.

In which case we generally agree. And I think the major difference in roster building between the new regime and Belichick is one where they are going after the best athletes and players, and will build depth and versatility using them, as opposed to Belichick’s model, which favored role versatility over better athletes/players. But special teams still figure into final roster cutdowns, as you can’t have guys like Javon Baker, who has zero special teams ability out there trying to save a touchdown in a punt return, as opposed to a guy who would see a similar number of snaps at WR, but is a good special teams contributor.
