In Jr. High "Wes" was not the name of the kid who beat you up and took your lunch money once a week.. "Wes" was the name of the kid who made sure you were never beat up as long as he got half your lunch money every day.

"Julian" was the name of the kid you beat up to get HIS lunch money.

There is a precedent for "cannonball." (Julian "Cannonball" Adderly)

Unfortunately, "Cannonball" doesn't fit. If he was a Full Back or something...

Also it must be able to replace his name.

Like Larry Bird or Magic Johnson. Excuse me, Lorenzo and Ervin.

As opposed to **** "Night Train" Lane. "****" still gets used.

It has to be one word. "Mini-Wes," is, despite the hyphen, sounded as two words. (Besides, he is taller than the guy he's a "mini" of.)

I suggest "The Calendar."

Yes, it is two words. An article registers in the mind as much the word "said."

Besides, you know Berman will call him Julian Calendar Edelman if we don't do it first.

Oh, "The" not "A."

If Paul Pierce had to play against "'a' truth" do you think he'd run by him?

The definite article is waaaaay cooler than the indefinite article.

Which is cooler a bone head or The Bone Head?

If you knew nothing but theses names, who would you bet on in "The Bonecrusher vs. A Bonecrusher"?

What name would you suggest?

His teamates call him Jules...

Just like with Gostowski, fans can't make up nicknames. His in college was Gotti but people here insisted on Ghost. His teamates call him "Meat". I don't even want to know why...

I think your alluding to the Julian Calendar may go over a few heads.

Hence the above link.

How about....

"Mr. Eighty Three Mini-Me"

His teamates call him Jules...

Ok... so how about Jules "And You Shall Know My Name Is The Lord When I Lay My Vengeance Upon Thee" Edelman?

Too long?

Not got much on today by any chance?

It probably depends on how he performs in the postseason. Let's say he is tremendous and literally saves the day for the Pats with 3rd down catches and punt returns. Then I nominate "The White Knight".

And if he outperforms Wes (which I HIGHLY, HIGHLY doubt) we go with "The Upgrade".

Unfortunately I think we'll refer to him as "the guy who played pretty well and had a strong rookie showing, especially for a guy who was a college QB, but couldn't duplicate Wes"...but that's a rather long nickname.

what is wrong with mini-me?

"Superbowl mvp" has a nice ring to it

Aside from the fact that it's a little insulting now that he's a starter is the fact that he's got a couple of inches on the guy the mediots keep claiming he's a clone of.

If he can be 80% of Welker we should call him Eddie-Money.

david ortiz = big papi
wes welker = small papi
julian = smaller papi
