Parcells provided certainty that the culture and organization and priorities would all be directed toward football and winning.

The Bledsoe drafting was encouraging, but the helpless need for hope on the field ended with the Parcells hiring.

After that it was a matter of whether the team would remain here.

I liked a lot of QB's in the 90's as that was my favorite era of football, but Bledsoe was my favorite QB. He had a cannon and could effortlessly flick the football 50+ yards downfield. My favorite memory was in back to back weeks in 1998 with Drew throwing TWO consecutive game winning TD's against Miami and Buffalo. Drew did everything he could with that broken finger that season. It was tough to move on and give that random guy named Tom Brady a chance back in 2001.

Wow, I still have Bledsoe rookie cards. I really thought HE was the chosen one who would bring us to the promised land. I was obsessed with the big 3 in Dallas, and wanted us to mimic that. They got Bledsoe, Martin and Glenn, and I thought they’d bring us a championship like Aikman, Smith and Irvin did in Dallas. They came close, actually had a lead vs GB in the SB. Bledsoe and Glenn got SB rings for SB 36.

Thanks for this! I did not realize Drew ended Flutie's 10-0 undefeated streak at Foxborough! Yup, he could throw a football.

We disagree on the importance of the impact of players. I’m of the belief that players play and generally decide wins and loses. I understand you think it’s the coaches and I respect that.

In this case I'm referring to the Coach/GM. It's impossible to believe that even with the exact same roster the team would have been as successful with a different HC than Parcells. In fact, if you had the exact same roster in 2001 it's impossible to believe that any coach besides Belichick could have led them to the playoffs, let alone the title.

My point is HOPE…and the team gave us that. I’m not a fan of cherry picking. It’s like saying Stevenson ran for 100 yards but if you take away the run for 40 yards then it’s not that impressive. You are what your record says you are. Drew and the team gave us hope regardless of this or that case.

Edit: I do acknowledge the Tuna played an important role in the eventual success the Patriots had.

I was there for both. Some of those Pete-Bledsoe games were really exciting. Say what you will about Drew, but he had a cannon arm and was a tough dude.

1993, Bledsoe to Timpson in OT. I was sitting in 223. First time I ever heard and FELT that old stadium erupt...when the crowd was really into it back in the old stadium, the benches literally shook and it felt like the entire building was moving. Tuna and Bledsoe ended the season with four straight wins. We were all pumped for 94, and IIRC the team was actually getting a smidge of preseason respect in the 94 nfl. Well, things got off to an auspicious 3-6 start, and then history happened with the OT win vs Minnesota, a 7 game win streak, and a return to the playoffs for the first time in a long time. Man, those were fun seasons...
