2027 Watch List

There are some fun position groups to watch this year.

Texas OL
Notre Dame & Georgia secondaries
Miami & Oklahoma interior DL
LSU safeties
Oregon and Texas Tech DL
Indiana and Arizona State WRs
Texas WRs
Louisville EDGEs

All have multiple players who could be drafted in the first four rounds or even higher. And I'm sure I'm missing some obvious ones. Iowa OL for example.

It's going to be interesting if a non QB needy team gets the first overall pick. ie the Raiders.

Do you trade back for a haul, or take Jeremiah Smith, of whom Tony Pauline says, NFL teams are evaluating on a par with Calvin Johnson. I've also been thinking about him as the non-QB version of Andrew Luck. ie. The player NFL teams have been waiting for for years - a guaranteed success.

My favoured middle-rounders (as things stand currently)

I'm not going to include prospects I think will go much higher despite being listed as middle rounders on the consensus big board right now (Chris Cole, Melvin Siani for example).

I'm not going to include WRs or RBs because there are too many and the need is less clear. I'm really looking at prospects listed in the 80s onward.

OL

PJ Williams, SMU
Brandon Baker, Texas

TE

Peter Clarke, Temple
Luke Reynolds, Virginia Tech

DT

Jayden Jackson, Oklahoma
Mateen Ibiroga, Texas Tech
Tavion Gadson, Kentucky
Jide Abasiri, USC (Don't know if he fits our roster as he's more of a 5-tech and as he's currently listed at 654th, hard to justify him as a mid rounder currently. Still, talk about a perfect blend of NFL body type and athleticism).

EDGE

Will Heldt, Clemson
Clev Lubin, Louisville
Boubacar Traore, Notre Dame

LB (and the award for favourite mid-round position group goes too...)

Ben Roberts, Texas Tech
Ray Coney, Texas A&M
Whit Weeks, LSU
Tony Rojas, Penn State
Raylen Wilson, Georgia

CB

Demello Jones (listed at 441 lol!)
Jontez Williams, USC

(There are a lot of names in this group, but these are the only ones to have fully won me over so far. That could change with more study).

S.

Tao Johnson, UCLA (if he improves his tackling).
Terry Moore, Ohio State (if he lives up to the hype).

(I thought this was going to be a good group, but sticking to my rules, Dashawn Spears (75) and Jelani Mcdonald (72) just miss out on my 80 or later rule. They would otherwise be included obviously).

I'll throw one group in - Indiana DB's - Amare Ferrell, AJ Harris & Jamari Sharpe (Preston Zachman penciled in at SS not sure what he'll add - 7th year transfer from Wisconsin) as barring injury all 3 will be drafted in 2027.

Good group. Feel free to add more, I knew I'd miss some.

My favorites mid-rounders, as of right now:

OL:

- Ezomo Oratokhai, Northwestern
- PJ Williams, SMU
- Brandon Baker, Texas

TE:

- Peter Clarke, Temple
- Luke Reynolds, Virginia Tech

IDL:

- David Hicks, Texas A&M
- Mateen Ibirogba, Texas Tech

EDGE:

- Marquise Lightfoot, Miami
- Boubacar Traore, Notre Dame
- Clev Lubin, Louisville

LB:

- Ray Coney, Texas A&M
- Ben Roberts, Texas Tech
- Arion Carter, Tennessee
- Tony Rojas, Penn St.

S:

- Jaylen McClain, Ohio St. (if he meets criteria)

CB:

- Demello Jones, Georgia

Demello Jones, Mo Oratokhai and Marquise Lightfoot are closest to binky status right now, but it's a crowded field.

What a way to start. Ashton Hampton, Sammy Brown, Will Heldt vs Trey'Dez Green, Jordan Seaton, Jordan Ross, Whit Weekes, Dashawn Spears and Ty Benefield.

Did you watch latest episode of Forged in Foxboro?

Vrabel (addressing players): "We signed 2 free agents who were drafted in the 8th round. Do you know how many rounds there are in the draft?"

Player (forget which one): "Seven."
