2027 Draft: Defensive Tackle

At 285lb, I'm not quite sure how Jide Abasiri fits our roster, but he is built like a beast.

I think that's what they call a facemask.

DJ Hicks

Real slow out of his stance but that's incredible power to move the RG with just one arm.

At 285lb, I'm not quite sure how Jide Abasiri fits our roster, but he is built like a beast.

Last year's fastest 10 yard split was Cashius Howell and Arvell Reese at 1.58s. Look what I found from last year's Freaks List on 285lb Jide Abasiri.

No. 38 Jide Abasiri, USC, defensive lineman

As a true freshman last year, the former four-star recruit appeared in 10 games and made seven tackles. The 6-5, 295-pounder from Minnesota has intriguing athleticism, having clocked 19.22 mph at nearly 300 pounds. More impressively, Abasiri’s 10-yard split was 1.60, which would be a good time for an edge rusher. He’s squatted 700 pounds.

Do we promote him to the EDGE rusher pile?

Kemari Copeland, Virginia Tech
6-2, 290

No 7 on the Freaks List

No. 7: Kemari Copeland, Virginia Tech, DT

No. 23 on last year’s Freaks List, Copeland was a bright spot for the Hokies in 2025, posting 48 tackles with 7.5 TFLs, a team-high 4.5 sacks and an interception. Two years ago when Copeland first arrived from junior college, video of him squatting 605 pounds for 10 reps went viral.

This offseason, the 6-2, 290-pound senior set a program record when he benched 510 pounds. He also improved his back squat to 735 pounds and clocked 20.2 mph on the GPS. He did a triple broad jump of 27 feet, 7 inches and ran a 4.64 shuttle, which would’ve bested the 4.68 that Baylor’s Jackie Marshall did to post the top shuttle time for a defensive tackle in February’s NFL combine.

I'm not a statistician so I don't know what a 'residual' is or a 'Pass Rush Win Rate vs. Pressure Rate regression' but I think this is good.

So picked this up from the podcast. Two years ago, Justin Scott was on the freaks list with a 1.56s 10 yard split. To put that into perspective, Aaron Donald has the fastest on record for a DT at 1.59s (since ‘99). If that 1.56 is real, that's remarkable and someone I want on my team.

The quickness of Aaron Donald and the coaching of Jason Taylor. Insert heart emoji here!
