2026 Red Sox Thread

The signing of White might indicate that the Sox management doubts Anthony will be back. That would be my guess what the trade indicated.
He has been swinging a bat pain free from the reporting.

And he is still rehabbing in FL? I think maybe the Sox management is doubtful he is back soon.
Yeah he is for now but I'd say in about a week or so he will be in Worcester rehabbing. He has missed so much time that he won't slide right back in. Probably need 4-5 gams in AAA to get the rust off.

Not sure how I feel about these moves, but am worried a bit about a Bagwell situation.

Eyanson should have been OFF the table. Period. In reality the deal is for 3 months. If next year never happens, the contracts still run. So when that ******* Breslow was negotiating with Baltimore that should have been the deal. Adley for 3 months because I can't count on next season and thats all he is under contract for. Baltimore wanted to trade him, was in a position of weakness and Breslow bent over and said can I take it a little more please.

It's ridiculous and he should never be allowed to make another trade involving top prospects. He just doesn't know what he is doing.

Thing about prospects is you spend tons of time ballwashing them because you know you need may need to trade them one day. But when you do, you have to be clear-eyed about what you actually have.

Im still a little dumbfounded they traded Eyanson.
Breslow is a ****ing idiot.
It wasn't even necessary.
There were just 2 prospects you had to keep:
Arias and Eyanson. And what did you get in return? Rutchman who is a bust at this point.
An act of desperation by Breslow who knew he'd get roasted again if he didn't make a move.
The only way you trade Arais or Eyanson is for a young all-star.
Rutchman is a jag

The market for young all-stars is pretty thin - especially catchers

Also aw young 3-time All Star.

Also, a young 3-time All-Star.
No. He's a .250 lifetime hitter who can't run, can’t slug, can't hit and is always hurt.
His best numbers were his first 2 years, both of which were mediocre. His last 3 years, numbers are horrible when he does play which ain't all that often
He sucks

His third year numbers are pretty comparable to his first two years. He's had injuries the past two years. And we all know no 28 year old player has EVER come back from injuries. He's also good defensively.

And he's still a young 3-time All-Star.

I suppose you were happy with the garbage they were putting behind the plate nightly.

Im a Sox fan so of course I want Rutchman to do well. But the track record says otherwise.
Meanwhile, Eyanson has ace potential.Only reason he wasnt a top 10 pick was his velocity was low 90's. Well guess what? In his first year in the minors hes up to HIGH 90's with command.
And you gave up another promising young pitcher in Witherspoon. And a good-looking position player who hits for average and has power and speed. Plus 2 MORE prospects.
This trade will be worse than the Bagwell trade.

He played like an all-star for one season. One.The other 2 he hit .255 and .220.
With NO power either year. Some allstar

I'm happy with the upgrade vs what they had no doubt. What they gave up was criminal though. They traded those guys for 3 months. Period. Next year might not happen and then he is free agent.

I would have told them you get 2 prospects and it starts with the 5th guy and goes from there. If they say no, so be it. You can never have enough pitching in the pipeline. In fact even on deadline day it was said that it was a buyers market for pitchers. Then Breslow tossed out 2 pitchers for him.

I liken it to you having 10K in a bank account and you know something is worth only 3 but they ask for the full 10 and you say..no problem. That would never happen. This should never have happened either.

There's a lot of 80th and 90th percentile numbers for a "middling reliever". Also 3 years of control.
After 103 games, he's only appeared in 38 with 32 IP?? Is that supposed to be impressive? He's also throwing more pitches per plate appearance than he has previously. Not to mention giving up double the number of runs over last year and in fewer innings. I'll give him credit in that he's also doubled the number of Strike outs over the previous year.

Tell me what Miller did when he pitched at Fenway..

Explain how this guy is better than Beckett or Early.

The way I see it, they've upgraded the offense (Narvaez was a batting black hole), they've upgraded the defense and they've upgraded the bullpen. On top of that, they keep their best prospect in Arias which looked far from certain in the run up to the deadline. It's just a shame the power RHB got injured.
How did they upgrade the defense? Does Rutschman play SS or 2B?? White doesn't. So, what did they upgrade? Especially since Rutschman is injured currently..

They've got More Outfielder/DH types than they can handle by adding White to the mix when they already had Yoshida, Jones and Duran.

I mean, when you look at the prospects they've dealt that they're no longer developing in guys like Johnxston Garcia, Eyanson, Witherspoon, Jordan, Azocar AND they still owe Baltimore another player, And they kept Kristian Campbell. Such a "great" move there.

The Sox are NOT in a position this year to go all the way. .All Breslow has done is screw the team by dealing away top prospects that will end up helping other teams. Like Jordan is already.. I said it when it happened that the trade of Jordan reminded me of the Bagwell trade.. Not saying that Jordan will be a HOFer, but Breslow WAY over-paid for a guy who didn't do a damn thing. And yes. I think the Sox gave up on Mayer too soon.

Wait. Rutschman is an uncontrolled FA at the end of the year? That makes the dead even worse..

Rutschman is under contract for 2027. Speculation is MLB will shoot itself in the foot over the CBA and there will be no season next year while player contracts will toll hence making Rutschman a FA after just a few months of playing for the Sox. In other news; the sky is falling and Breslow gave away all the hard hats
