DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION 2026 NFL Draft Day 3

Have no idea why we're trying to get rid of our second most productive WR last year.

He has broken out.

He may give us MORE than Doubs this coming year.
He's a 2 or 3 catch per game guy (very good 2 or 3 catches though) who probably doesn't get a second contract here. It's no more complicated than that.

There goes McCoy

I pray this is totally wrong and just the media stirring up trash, but we do have a log jam. Brown, Doubs, Boutte, Hollins, Williams with Chis and Pop looking in. I think Chis will earn the slot. Pop is gone. Can we carry 6 WR, 3 TE, 1 FB, 3-4 RB? Boutte is the odd man out because he is in a contract year and Williams is the investment. I love Boutte, but cant see how it works with him.

I'm not sure about that. Keep in mind we are likely to see more 2 WR looks with all the FB's and TE's we brought in. I wonder if we keep 6 on the game day rosters, and a guy like Chism spends most of this year on the PS, coming up a few games when injuries occur.

The New York Jillettes?

Okay... What baby Did Keionte Scott punch? Should have been gone a round ago. Also sorry Manx. I know that one hurt.

Wish we had a Fourth.

Why are the announcers trying to justify watching the 4th round and on in the NFL draft to people already watching it? If we are watching it we know the value of late picks. The 3rd day is where good draft become great drafts.

3+ per game. And he's a downfield threat. 16.7 ypc.

But look at his target rate: 72%! Excellent.

16.7 ypc at 72% is outstanding production.

He's also just 23 years old.

Scratching the surface.

Doubs is older, and is at 13.2 ypc at 65%. Also 3+ catches per game.

Last year, for 10 games, Boutte's numbers are better than Doubs's. And before someone mentions injuries, Kayshon missed 2 games the year prior to this one, while Doubs was out for 5 with injury.

I think Boutte may get traded to the Colts, if a player the Pats covet is there, which I think may be a possibility.

I dont pay enough attention to board sentiment but is Chism your guy? Because Douglas is explosive and Chism is slow. In comparing these two, Id keep Pop 100% of the time.

Chism is not my guy, but I like him. I have come to the conclusion that Pop is not a slot receiver in our system. I really have no idea what he is, but he is not an Edelman, Welker, Amendola, or Hogan. He is a better athlete than them all. He is actually good at getting downfield and separation. He is so quick and jittery. It has translated in just 1 good season so far, and its not in this EP system. I am not sure he has the mind for it.

Speed/explosion isn't the mark of the EP slot. Edelman was 4.52 and Welker was 4.65. Amendola was 4.58. Hogan was the fastest at 4.5. Chism is 4.71. But look at their 3 cone. Edleman was 6.62. Welker was 7.09. Amendola was 6.81. Hogan was 6.75. Chism is 6.77. Pop is 7.05. Elite 3 cone times are in the 6.6 range. 7.00 is really the bar.

The 3 cone drill demonstrates change-of-direction speed, body control, and acceleration. The key is navigating tight turns. I think its one of the key indicators to a successful Pats slot WR, Welker being the flyer. Football intelligence in the slot role for us is essentail. Its one of the few positions that can freelance a bit to get to the right spot on the field. The EP slot is called the F. It acts as a versatile, "move" chess piece rather than just a fixed position. Unlike traditional systems that lock slot receivers into quick, short routes, the EP system emphasizes using them in motion, alignment shifts, and to exploit specific matchups, functioning as a hybrid of receiver and running back. Tom was a master of moving Welker and Edelmen, but Jules took it to a new level because Tom didn't have to move him. Jules and Tom became telepathic in nature. With all that said, I don't see Pop and Drake ever getting to that point. I have been watching Chis in the offseason and think he has a better shot.

They really are pushing that girls football thing this draft. This is only the 7th time it has been mentioned. And good for them I guess... but can't we just watch the draft?

We have no 4th round picks, and I love 4th round for value BUTTTT...high chances we don't draft the guys we drafted in the 1st and 2nd round without those trade ups. This front office is smart and know the business. So much better than the old Belichick method, no disrespect but I don't miss any of that.

We got 3 potential starters from now on they can do whatever they want.

If Nussmeier slids to the later rounds I wouldn't mind, guy was a gunslinger in LSU.
You trade up when you see the opportunity and you agree with the price. We didn't do it when we could have in the prior 2 years. But even under Belichick, we did sometimes trade up. When the values weren't there, we traded down. Matt Light, Chandler Jones, Donte Hightower, Rob Gronkowski are all trade ups. Im sure there are more.
