He's a redundant second stringer in this offense.
Not buying that.
I don't care what "string" you think he is.
Teams role with 5/6 WRs, he is one of our 5 best.
If you think trading a guy who will contribute to a team with SB hopes is worth it for a 5th rd pick, I'm not going to try and change your mind.

It's analogous to your top swing tackle being a better lineman than your interior lineman in a scenario where you can only keep 5.

He's been a very good receiver for us, but you need a WR corp with a diversified skill set.

What is your vision for our WR corp this season? Who get's cut, how is Boutte utilized and how many snaps does he get?

To start training camp Boutte was our best receiver because he had chemistry with Maye. Maye can drop it in the basket with ANY receiver once the chemistry is established. Boutte is a good contestested catch receiver who is strong at the catch point, but so are AJB and Doubs. Throughout camp they have been building that chemistry with Maye and IMO will become our best options.

The probability of one of our WRs getting injured during the long season approaches 1. Hammies abound. Boutte should be kept.

My thoughts today:
AJ Brown
Doubs
Boutte
Hollins
Williams
Dorner

Those are my 6.

So...the 2 least athletic WRs but have value:
Pop - Trade (try)
Chism - PS

PS or IR: Palmer, DeGennaro, Dixon, Prentice

If they do decide to trade Boutte because WTF then Chism or Pop as 6th WR.

And this most likely will change after Saturday night.

Pop has been running with the 1's in practice, and sat the preseason game with Brown/Doubs. That's a clear indication of direction.

Unless Boutte isn't traded we should keep 7, and if Dorner beats out Chism, so be it.

The team will be fine with two roster players at TE or QB, or three at RB. Then they can bring up one of the JAGS from the practice squad if they need another on game day.

Chism was running with the 1's for a while, too. Means Squadoosh.

It actually doesn't.

Chism is more likely to stick than Dorner. I was just running with your picks.

They will keep Williams and one other developmental player IMO.

But Douglas is in based on usage. This has been consistent all camp, not just an occasional fling with the 1's like Chism.

He's the easiset to cover. He's the least targeted because of that. He's the least able to block in the run game. Doesn't play STs.

But I digress. He's a good locker room guy.

Like I said I'll change my mind after Sat. night. I mean we do need players with different skill sets.

Douglas is a slot player and I think Diggs took a lot of that last year.

I've found over the years reading how a coach uses players in preseason practice/games is the best indicator of the team's direction.

Chism playing with the 1's occasionally does mean little, but usage has been consistent with Douglas so until I see it differently, that's my opinion.

We will see.
