He's the ultimate example of how a player can grow if given an opportunity.
You forgot to mention that Nink is the ultimate example, and a very rare example, of how a player can grow. A sample of one guy in 5 years or so is just that, a very rare example that comes along every 5 or 10 years.

The Pats need to chase common, not rare examples, by drafting well in R1 to R4.

Very true. BB had alot of those types of guys here and there over the years. He was able to give guys a chance to develop let's not forget Jules as well. Kent state QB barely a draft pick made the team as a punt returner.. however to your points getting guys in the top 4,5 rounds each season will be paramount to development. Alot of pressure as well as emphasizing this has been cast over the organization from having ao many bad drafts.. however guys like Ponder and Swinson will have plenty of opportunities to further cement themselves. I feel Ponder can become a Factor.. we'll see on Swinson.

Pretty cool..

Developmental projects and later round contributors are not that rare. It happens often and across all 32 teams annually.

I agree. My point was that a development project to show up to potentially be a long snapper and end up a 8-ish year starter at DE is rare. I was talking about the Ninko story, not a developmental or late round or UDFA in general. The difference is the level of success. My point is that comparing Ponder, for instance, to Ninko is a high bar, a unique bar, and might be wishful thinking.
