2025 Draft: WRs

What are opinions here on Kaden Prather from Maryland 6-3 210. Not a binky but I am becoming enamored with him. 4th rounder imo

Physically he's the embodiment of an X-Receiver. question is, does he have the speed to match?

With the loss of the cut-up videos from Draft Breakdown, the way I scout now is to watch the highlight tape so that I can see what a prospect is capable of at his best and then fill that out by researching him on PFF and read scouting reports to see where the potential problems are.

Positives

1. As I said, love the physique. Perfect X
2. Excellent body control and uses his hands, rather than body, to catch when needed too.
3. Redzone threat.
4. Good hands. Only 1 drop last season

Concerns

1. PFF grade is one of the weaker in the class.
2. Productivity is a concern. Never had more than 700 yards or 5 TDs in a season
3. YAC and contested catch rate are low.

He's one to wait on the combine for. If he runs really well, he could a really interesting developmental X-receiver. I'm a believer in drafting a receiver with upside on day 3 every year and currently have Pat Bryant and Kyle Williams at the top of my list this year. With a good combine, Prather could join them.

I have no context for how reliable this analysis is but here it is anyway.

One note of caution on Tre Harris. I've seen quite a bit of analysis on the Ole Miss offense that it's very simplistic one read stuff. So bear that in mind when thinking about how he translates to a McDaniels offense.

Also, Egbuka is becoming one of those 'run the card straight in if he's there at 38' guys.

If it's any help, I dreamt last night that he was the leading draft receiver in fighting off an alien invasion. Take it fwiw

State you know who Rick White reminds me of?? Falcons WR Roddy White: have you seen Georgie's Arian Smith?? Him and Ricky White are identical Players to me :X WR's written all over them. I see quite a few diamonds in the rough who looks like they will translate in the NFL.
I really like Ricky White. Kid will have a better pro career than college. Of course his breakout game as a true freshman against Michigan where QB Rocky Lombardy threw him one long bomb after another after another clouds my judgment.

But eight catches for 196 yards against Michigan’s CBs? Then almost immediately he’s accused of something by a female. Can’t play the rest of the season. Then is forced to red shirt the following year.

All so an investigation can take place. Run by sloths and three-legged mules? Totally unfair.

Nothing was ever deemed credible.

Ricky White transfers to UNLV.

Please draft him.

No love for converted QB now WR Nick Nash? Looks like a ball hawk to me and still learning the position.

As Josh McDaniels value blocking from his WRs here are four that grade highly:

Tre Harris
Bru McCoy
Jack Bech
Pat Bryant

All the multi round internet mocks will be mocking Restrepo to the Pats now won't they?
Bru McCoy looks like a sleeper: former Five Star Recruit who had a nasty injury at the College level. Might be better Pro than College Player I like.

I was studying WR stats to find receivers that fit what Vrabel said he's looking in a WR as regards being good on contested catches and YAC and I'll do a seperate post on that but one really intriguing name came up. Now based upon what happened at the Titans, I'm working on the theory that the offense under Vrabel could be one features play action deep passes as a key aspect of the offense so including both of those ideas, we'd be looking for a deep threat receiver who's good on contested catches and gets plenty of yards after the catch.

To that end, here's Deont'e Thornton Jnr of Tennessee. He's 6-5, 214lbs and allegedly runs in the low 4.4s.

First here's what he's not. He's not someone with wiggle or someone who runs a complex route tree or someone who's highly productive (only 26 receptions on 34 targets this season).

What he is, is a dangerous deep threat. He scored 6 TDs from those 26 receptions. He leads all draft eligible receivers on yards per reception with 25.5 and on YAC/RR on 10.7. He's 3rd on y/RR with 3.74 and has a contested catch rate of 75%.

NFL Draft Buzz have him ranked in the 5th round but he could be a combine riser. He's not DK Metcalf but he's similar in how you would play him.

Another Thornton manman?? Haven't we suffered enough... I want the Real Bru McCoy instead.

What do folks think of Jon Jiles, he is 6-2.6, 220 and ran a 4.57 at his pro-day. I have not been able to find much on the kid other than he said he did not take school very seriously so he spent a lot of time in D2. The giants signed him as a UDFA and then cut him and we signed him to the PS.

If anyone has info/video of him please pass along. Thanks

Here was a video from a Pats fan last year

Of course if we want YAC we could have a look at Luther Burden

This indepth breakdown suggests he could be the next Deebo

He looks good but will have to wait until the Combine as Draft Buzz have him listed as a 4.65s guy. I don't think I'd want him with that time but if he runs a fair bit faster (4.5s) he'd be worth a day 3 punt. I do like the idea of signing 2 FA WRs and then taking a punt on a day 3 guy.

I’d say his play speed looks like 4.45-4.5.
