Hard to believe they drafted Drake Maye, and the kid is a star, but somehow the overall team is still WORSE than last year's abomination. It's truly disgusting to be honest
The offense is definitely better than last year.

The defense is worse which is an indictment of the coaches on that side of the ball.

Unfortunately i don’t see any change in the coordinators next year. Nobody that is better than what we’ve got would accept to come work for a lame duck coach.

It’s either fire Mayo and blow everything up or keep Mayo, Covington, AVP and Wolff.

Mayo and Wolff will be on a tight leash next year. Wolff has to bring talent to save his job and if he does then Mayo will not have the excuse of the poor roster anymore and his short comings can no longer be ignored

Good analysis but you did not address the fact that the Patriots - in addition to the 2025 draft class - have the most available money on the cap to sign veterans. With that $139 million, they will be able to bring in proven starters that fill immediate needs in 2025. Given that Drake Maye is drawing appreciation from rival players and coaches, the conversations with potential free agent offensive skill players will be much more favorable than in the past three years.

Personally, I would trade the Travis Hunter pick to a team that really wants him for additional top-of-the-draft capital in 2025 and 2026. It's unclear to me what his true NFL position will be, and the need for long-term elite-level Offensive Line talent and a true WR who can separate outweighs everything else with Drake Maye as the QB of the future. Travis Hunter has lots more value to a middle-of-the-pack team on the cusp of becoming a contender than the Patriots who need to build their core in the trenches to get out of the basement. For example, what would the 49ers, Saints, or Bears offer from the #9 to #11 draft slots for Travis Hunter?
Based on history and draft value charts the 2 pick is worth double the 10 pick. Also based on history if its not a QB your not getting next years first.

Say we got the 10 pick and a second in 2025 and in 2026
Travis Hunter 90% plus chance of being good NFL player
10 pick- about 40% chance though could be as low as 25% in this draft as there are only 10-12 first round talents
2nd round picks in 2025 and 2026 are 25% chance each
Why does anyone think we could pick 3 guys lower in the draft and think the odds favor that move over taking Hunter? It just doesn’t.
Nobody is giving a high first and potential high 2026 first for Hunter but, yeah, I’d consider that if a QB needy team like Raiders throws in 2026 first but in this REALLY CRAPPY DRAFT YEAR I’m not going past 6 in a trade down

Outside of QB you take the clearly better prospect, if 1 guy is well above everyone else don’t mess around with trades, pick him.
Totally different if guys are rated closer.
Abdul Carter vs Jeanty, Jeanty slightly better prospect but close enough you take Carter as an area of need. Travis Hunter vs Anyone else, absolutely a no brainer.

This post must be a joke.

2001 had a prime Troy Brown who caught 101 balls for 1200 yards.

2004 had Deion Branch, an elite separator and underrated deep threat.

2014-2016 had the greatest tight end who ever lived and Martellius Bennett. Not some old man in the sea the mummified version of Austin Hooper. They also had Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Chris Hogan, and a big red zone target in Brandon Lafell.

Mourn, Soda Pop Douglas, Boohoo, Slow Poke, and Bob the Baker are not even comparable in talent to the above

Also …I might add Maye is no Brady!! If you expect Maye to produce with lesser talent like Brady did, you are in for a rude awakening.
Great post! soda pop!! I'll add young Brady had elite coaching, elite defense and established players on offense. Once Brady took over from Drew all he had to do was manage the game. Drake and Brady have similar traits in their abilities to lead and make plays that aren't there. Drake has funnnn NFL expansion team for a roster to try and win with and a hyde park YMCA coach.

I could have sworn Maye was running for his life the most I ever seen... how many throw aways did he have, 8, 10?
I think he had more designed rollouts than usual. Anyway, that tweet is simply saying that Layden Robinson specifically did a good job - which is very promising!

I just don’t know how it works…

The team is very obviously devoid of talent so Wolf needs to sign talent. But will good players actually want to come play in NE for Mayo? This was already a struggle last year when he was an unknown, and now this year he has shown he isn’t actually good at his job, so it can’t have helped…

If they are somehow able to buy that talent and Mayo still looks bad then it becomes obvious that he’s a total failure. But if they can’t even get anyone to sign, then what? You can’t pin that on the GM… If they’re willing to overpay and still can’t get anyone because the team is so unattractive then that’s a bigger death knell… Will Kraft see it or will he somehow think it’s Wolf’s fault?

Not to mention the fact that spending big and overpaying requires Kraft to get out the checkbook.

I know everyone thinks Maye is the second coming of Christ, but him only having earned 1 win as a starting QB in this era of the NFL is quite concerning. The talent in the NFL has gotten worse each year. In fact, look how many 1st round picks are getting cut flat out so quickly because they suck.

He’ll make throw here and there, but then he can’t move the offense again until the game is pretty much out of reach.

He’s got a lot to work on as a player and the Pats have to do the unthinkable and surround him with talent.
Maye is already a top 15 QB in the league with the worst supporting cast in the nfl.

If you think he only makes throw here and there then I don’t know what you are watching. His ability to consistently read the field and understanding the coverage post snap is well above average for a rookie.

What is the most impressive thing about him is he is playing QB from the pocket and he is already doing the little stuff an NFL QB needs to do. He isn’t running around like a headless chicken playing back yard football trying to buy time because he has no idea about what he is seeing.

People say this, but I'm not convinced.

Who would take a co-ordinator job? Someone who has washed out as a Head Coach. Obvious examples are McDaniels (twice!) and soon-to-be Daboll. Brian Flores, Arthur Smith and Steve Spagnuolo are others who've become very successful co-ordinators after being dismissed as Head Coaches.

What's more money talks and the Krafts have plenty of it. I'm sure Mayo is being paid less than BB was -- and rightly so. So why not spend it on first-rate co-ordinators?

Finally, if you do a really good job and the Head Coach is dismissed, you'll surely have plenty of options -- including, possibly, another go at the Head Coach job.

For example average salaries for coordinators OC and DC are league average around 1.2 million. Steve B as a "co- coordinator was making 2.5 million... when he was here.

I don't believe this stat. Robinson and Jacobs were turnstiles most of the game.
The offensive line "metrics" we've been fed the last few years are an absolute joke. We have eyes. Those metrics got Onwenu 19 million a year, when he spends half the game on his ass, and the other half standing around as defenders blow past him.

I don't know, it's still blocking and tackling.

Still have to know who you're supposed to be blocking. But that's just one of the many problems this line has.

The point is Kraft should notice fans aren't buying tickets. Maybe it will help with changes.
