2024 NFL Draft Thread (Continued..)

Going by conference championship games the last 6-7 seasons I’ve found these average-below average QBs who made it to the final four.

1. Nick Foles
2. Blake Bortles
3. Case Keenum
4. Ryan Tannehill
5. Brock Purdy
6. Jimmy G
I think the key with all of them, other than Purdy, is they were mostly 1-year wonders. That's always possible in any given year for a team with a below average QB. Consistently being in playoff contention is a different story.
Purdy is surrounded by the best offensive talent overall in the NFL. Think that's harder to duplicate than getting a good QB.

He's our long-awaited Edelman replacement.
Laube could be our CMC. But the guy can catch, run, return kicks/punts. We need an explosive 3rd down back.

Chad Graff over at 'The Atheltic' went to the Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL.

He said that Nix and Penix 'struggled' down there and that the Pats were now 100% likely to take QB at #3. I asked him for specifics in the comments section. Will paste in here if I ever hear back.

Take that for what it is worth.

This is a genuine question:
Is there a greater chance that a #3 overall WR pick turns into Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss, Devante Adams...
Or the #3 overall QB pick turns into Manning, Brady, Rogers, Mahomes...

People throwing off their back foot won't cut it consistently in Todays NFL. Saw both of them do it on the College level.

IF Mac wasn't so bad you know where I'll be leaning.

Depends on the QB though. Some can get away with it by sheer arm strength...which Penix has, IMO.

TBH, I am warming up to Penix, Jr. for the following reasons:

1.) He's been hurt 4X. He cannot continue to have ****ty injury luck, right?

2.) His draft capital value is very low. We can realistically draft him with 2.03 without trading up, IMO as I expect Williams, Maye, Daniels, and McCarthy to go off the board before him.

He is the target for me if we take MHJ.....

CB is a sneaky need for us. We have always been at our best defensively when we can play press man coverage. Gonzalez looked great, but we don't have much to speak of opposite him. Alex Austin I guess looked ok but Jon Jones/Marcus Jones should be slot guys (or I'd experiment with Jon Jones going to FS potentially).

From the Fourth Round on Rounds 1-3 Offense please.

Yikes, we picked the two guys who get sacked more than anyone!

I don't want anyone who is in the same quadrant as Mac Jones.

You have to capitalize on other team’s impulses. With the #3 we should be able to get a 2nd this year but any additional firsts beyond the swap would be next year. I don’t see any quick fixes that make us a playoff team in 2024 anyway.
If another team wants to mortgage their future on their latest “must have” player, and lacks impulse control like Carolina did, I hope the Pats are ready to oblige.

I seem to recall the usual suspects *****ing about Sebastian Vollmer being an over draft.

The reason why I think it is inevitable that we select Maye or Daniels is pretty simple: Mayo & Wolfe can’t afford to pass and risk one of those guys becoming a franchise QB. That’s a fireable offense if we don’t quickly find one of our own and become good in short order.

Can’t have one of those two go elsewhere flash serious potential and we are sitting there at 6-11 after year one without a QB of the future. It’s just not going to happen. Those guys know its in their best interest to pick the QB. They don’t have six Super Bowls affording them a long leash.
