2024 NFL Draft Thread (Continued..)

I've been watching a lot of videos of the RBs since we need one, and of those 5 listed, only Lloyd interests me. Estime and Irving are on the smaller side and get by on juking people, but they aren't really fast. I think they'll get swallowed up in the NFL. Benson is a little bigger but plays like them. Brooks has the kind of injury that makes him a huge question mark. He might've been the first back to go. But unless a team makes a run at him like the Bills with Willis McGahee, he might even be there in the 4th.

I like Lloyd as a 3rd down back. Pass catcher.

I'd be interested in the 5th round in Braelon Allen, a big bruising back who can't seem to make people miss but can get you 3 yards at any time. I like Will Shipley as a 4th rounder; kind of a Kevin Harris story but with a lot more athleticism. With Shipley, you can hit big even though he had a down year opposed to previous years (like Harris). Late round interests in 6th or 7th: Dillon Johnson (because he's a tough SOB), Emani Bailey, Corey Schrader. All 3 are going to make the NFL as capable backups.

My favorite back: Blake Corum. I see him as having the potential to be a good home run hitter. A James Cook type. I would spend a 3rd on him. It's likelier that, given the team's needs, they'll only spend a 5th thru 7th, which makes Rham the lead back and keeps Kevin Harris as his backup.

So you're back really to targeting Lloyd in the 4th or 5th as your 3rd down back.
Nice. Although, I wouldn’t classify Estime as “small.” He’s listed anywhere between 5’11- 6’1 227lbs. Also, I like Corum as well, but I posted a stat that listed himself and his teammate Edwards as the RBs with the lowest broken tackle rate at the collegiate level. Not sure that’ll translate to the NFL, if he’s small AND can’t break tackles. We shall see..

I note that Pittman and Higgins are decidedly average on this chart.

You have to be brave to give these men $25m, and if you do, the max contract can only be for 3 yrs. No way you go longer. I'd be tempted to offer them that for only 2 guaranteed.

Also note that Bourne is nearly equivalent to Pittman and Higgins in the chart. Were we going to pay Bourne, without his injury, $20M+?

I thin k they need to sign a really good WR in FA but holy moly those stats are not good for laying out that kind of cash.

The only caveat is that both WRs are big and can win 50/50 balls, but that's exactly who you don't want for your young QB, not when you still have Devante Parker.

The offensive FAs are weak. The TEs are OK, Cousins might be an option at QB depending on cost, but the WRs and OTs are disappointing. Better to sign top defensive players in FA and draft all offense. BPA is the only way forward in a rebuild. Don't reach in the draft or in FA. We have to draft QB, OT, and WR. The FA options are way over priced. If we reach in FA it is cutting off our nose to spite our face.

QB: Williams, Maye, Daniels
WR: Harrison, Nabers, Odunze
OL: Alt, Fashanu

Would be fine with any of this 8 as our pick if we go to 8. There is also a player or two that surprise and shoot up boards as well. After seeing what LaPorta did this year, Bowers could be a guy someone takes early. Still think we’re getting a pretty good prospect at 8 (if we go that route) and pick up more premium draft capital. 8, 2nd/3rd rounder, 2025 1st and Kyle Pitts.

I would only think it's unlikely because a team is very unlikely to agree to it, rather than it's unlikely because the Patriots wouldn't offer it. I've read that the first round grades this draft are limited to the first half of the first round.
Effectively, this would be like trading 2 second rounders and a 4th for a 1st round value.
Unless you think we're NOT getting a top 15 pick next year it makes perfect sense. I'd be surprised to see anyone think we're not in that range with a new HC, QB and a offense that lacks firepower.

14-16 range plus 34 & a late round pick gets you in the top ten. That's being conservative. There's a good possibility we're in the top 10 next year if you're being objective. So yea it makes sense in terms of value.

Also regarding 1st round picks. Very rarely do you even get 15 prospects with a 1st round grade. It's no secret next years class won't be as top heavy or deep. So I'd definitely try to get back into the top 8-12 in this year's than hold onto a 25 1st for next year. Teams view things differently, are in different places in terms how close you are to winning. So yea I think it makes sense if we're looking to make immediate changes on offense.

I'm just referring to how midround 1sts a year deferred are essentially considered 2nd rounders for trading purposes, solely because they defer to the future

Agree, only this year when you need a QB and LT more than a WR, you have to wait until 3rd round.

I will also say that this year has the best WRs in FA in a very long time.

I understand that but again there's a very good case to be made that NEP will be picking closer to 5-10 than 15. This years 34 is also pretty valuable.

Again conservatively a top 15 pick + 34 & a 4th/5th is roughly 1700 points. That's top 5-10 territory. Throw in Mac and you're there no problem lol.

Nice. A lot of the same.

*Idc about the QB's concerns or flaws or we as much as I do that we surround him with what he needs to really succeed. If we don't do that it doesn't matter who we draft*

For me it's basically Maye or Harrison at 3 or trade back but stay in the top 10. BPA.

I know this unlikely but I'm all for trading our 2025 1st, 34 & 4th or 5th to try and nab Alt, Odunze, Fashanu etc Whoever is around that 8-12 range.

Get two guys with cornerstone potential. We don't need guys that might work or to fill a certain need. We need guys you can game plan around and are game planned for by opposing coaches.

This years QB T WR class are superior to next year's corp. These things come and go in waves. 26 is the next big class.

If we get a QB we know what it took for Allen, Tua Burrow and the rest to really succeed.

I made a post in the df and I am serious. Give me any two of the big (9) 3 QB 3 WR 3 T > over any combo you come up with in a fantasy simulator.
Maye/Fashanu

Harrison/Alt

Daniels/Odunze

any pair of those guys would make this draft a home run. Use 68 on BPA.

McCarthy is a lot closer to QB3 than some think and will go RD1 (100%)
I really don’t like trading future high picks, but your rationale is sound.

We could just pretend that BB is still HC and Goodell docked the Pats their #1 pick for not using carbon neutral toilet paper in the locker room.

Who drafts Kool-Aid and Chop?
Anyways ... some think the Bears are drafting Alt at 1 ...
They could get him with a small move down ... no?

What a dumb trade in the 2nd to get.... an IOL prospect? This is why mocks are next to useless.
I’m not against the trade -an extra third next year sounds wonderful- but an iol isn’t the position that I want addressed there.

I'm not against trading in theory, in this case you pick up a 7th and '25 3rd, miss two potential LTs, to get IOL?

The price is a bit steep for the raiders for 10 spots, although one of the last QBs is the prize.

Patrick Paul goes a few picks later, so they passed on three tackles for the OT that will shift inside to guard for the NFL.
