Sick as a dog. Fell asleep the other day right after work and left after lunch yesterday. Banged in today and just got in from running a few errands like a zombie.
I really think the Pats will look at QB hard. I could be totally off but in terms of type, I see a few guys we like and we know they're not going to wait for that position. I know they like Stidham I just think it's going to come down to player / value when the board falls. Love, Fromm, Gordon etc will be tempting if the opportunity presents itself.
Running back is a very interesting position because the draft / NFL teams over the past few years, decade have told us they don't value this position as much as they used to in the first round. Some years we'll see one two guys taken and if that plays out this year they'll be a ton of potential and talent in the second round. A guy like Dobbins, CHE would be very helpful on a 2nd Rd deal if for some reason we move on from someome or we simply really like the player. We need more versatility when we put our guys on the field from that position. We see it in flashes here and there but aren't getting the explosive plays we should be. We need guys that can create on their own at times & by now we should have got more out of Rex, Sony, White when we have a duo on the field. Again another case of value/player lining up.
There's not much to say about the wide receiver position. It's supremely talented, versatile and there's a ton of guys that either fit our profile, are currently what we need from the position and we might get lucky and see a top tier prospect fall. From Lamb & JJ. To Reagor & Shenault. And about 10 in between. Someone will fall and there will be so much potential in Rd 2. I can't see there not being a run Rd 2-3. Proche, Hill and Mims are guys we should have an eye on as well. Proche rewrote the books at SMU & the other two are exactly what we need.
I've said TE was the biggest failure from last year's offseason. Between the years leading up/past few drafts there's been no excuse not you have at least one guy you can count on. There's more than a few who could help right now in this draft. If you look at the history of the position most of the talent comes from round 2 ,3, 4 & 5. It's a tough position to evaluate because very few teams feature a tight end in both the passing/blocking game. So you might not see the production you want from either. At least early on the production isn't so great you can't replicate it with a 3rd Rd pick as opposed to a 1st.
In terms of offensive line talent/potential there's a nice blend of top heavy prospects and guys you are very comfortable taking a gamble on later. Guys like Becton, Jones, Taylor, Ruiz, Muti and Bredeson there are a bunch of prospects that identify with as our types and value that might be too good to pass up.
I've used the word a lot bc value is a big part of draft. Combine that with a decent size board I think we'll have and it wouldn't surprise me to see a few guys called that might be different than what some had in mind. The problem is no 2nd Rd pick. Again I can't seeing us go the entire 2nd Rd this year with no picks. Whether we trade back with our 1st. Up with our 3rds or future picks, a trade? I see us fighting to get in there.
Defensively, again a lot of prospects we usual go after. From IDL to LB. Rush to DB. Lots of guys that show leadership, versatility/skill set we go after. At first glance we're loaded but we know how quick and often NEP teams can change. Esp with FA/Tom looming.
The DL prospects are interesting to me. Guys like Kinlaw, Gallimore and Blacklock are exactly what we like upfront and need to some extent. Esp with the looks we've been using. Kinlaw could be a nice addition/upgrade from Butler. Someone who has potential across the line. His best football should absolutely be in front of him with the tools he has. I could see Pitt liking Gallimore a lot considering his upside as a pass rushing NT with Hargrave coming up. Blacklock provides some juice, power and versatility and could be nice value if teams pass early bc of his injuries.Epenesa reminds me of Flowers, Baun could be a KVN replacement and Chaisson could be that demon off the edge with some upside away from the ball.
The Safety position is interesting as well considering the eventual replacements for DMC/Chung/Harmon if we want to be a year early or think the time has come for one/two? Chin, Dugger, Brooks and Davis are guys that just scream PTP to me.
I'm going to throw a few attributes next to each after I eat and will definitely add/subtract as the draft comes closer. Also put a rough grade so to speak next to each one to give you an idea of where they'll be selected. 108 in total I believe.
