2016: Dirty Burds blew FIVE 4th quarter leads

Some of the Falcons boards were commenting on this before the game. They were worried the team had trouble closing out opponents.

Somebody pointed out this fit us perfectly

"We Are The Champions"

I've paid my dues
Time after time.
I've done my sentence
But committed no crime.

And bad mistakes ?
I've made a few.
I've had my share of sand kicked in my face
But I've come through.

We are the champions, my friends,
And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end.
We are the champions.
We are the champions.
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the world.

I wonder how much those blown leads mentally affected them last week?

I do believe that there is something to the notion that teams coach differently when they play the Patriots. I didn't watch many Falcons games, but I believe Tom being on the other sideline had something to do with them remaining aggressive and trying to slam the door shut. Too bad for them, too good for us that it backfired.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - the most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line"!

Now add, "never assume a fourth quarter lead is safe against Tom Brady"

never bring a knife to a gun fight

I've been coming out here for six days now (almost) since the game. I've enjoyed gloating and celebrating. But this is the first thread that actually told me something I didn't know before. Thank you.

And none of the geniuses at Fox gave that stat to Joe Buck and Troy Aikman on Sunday? I mean supposed they had used it as their lead in to the Fourth Quarter. They could have looked like ****ing geniuses instead of just two more stooges amazed by what Brady and his teammates accomplished.

Taking a deeper look at this, it seems a few of those were a bit unfair.

Against Seattle, they trailed 17-3 at the half and had a huge 3rd quarter to go up 7. They would lose by 2 on the road in Seattle when they were good, but they also got screwed a bit on an obvious PI call against Julio not getting called. Home-field advantage, no excuses. Then again, we would blow our own 4th quarter lead against the Seahawks too so I'm a bit more forgiving of this one than most.

The Chiefs loss seems really unfair. They were down 27-16 going into the 4th, then made a frantic comeback to tie it up. They scored 2 TDs in the 4th quarter to take a 1-point lead, then gave up a 2-point interception return by Berry trying to stretch the lead to 3. If anything, this was a big 4th-quarter comeback against a playoff team, with one bad conversion.

I know at some point it all adds up, but this team was 4-4 in one-possession games. They won some, they lost some. They played in a lot of close games. But I don't consider them chokers. They were a good team, not a great team, and they lost to a better team once we got our **** together.

Found this gem on sound fx, Brady 1st snap in OT, Blank is resigned to a loss. lol

Where's that swagger now, Big Bad Artie?

The Falcons weren't in as good of physical condition as the patriots. The defense plays hard the first half and they wear down. Maybe it's too that the bench isn't good enough to put in the game at any time.
