2015 NFL Mock Drafts

I know Interior OL is our biggest need, but I'll be shocked if BB drafts one first round. It is a position you can get good value from day 3 of the draft (Stork and Urshel from Baltimore)

Quite possible. And, we can even move up in the 3rd if we want to. I looked at CBS rankings last night. I've assumed all along we will release VW. I'd also let go Amendola, Hoo-Man. Re-do Revis, Brady and Mayo. That allows me to keep the rest of our def. players. McCourty, Ayers, Silega, Branch, Casillas and Gostkowski. I'll spend any excess on offense. My preference at the moment is Royal and Spiller. No trades. Just picking by their board.

1. Malcolm Brown - DT - Texas - Hopefully, can help right away.

2. Markus Golden - OLB/DE - Mizzou I think he can stand up and play a little better than Flowers.
Could be long-term replacement for Ninkovich

3. Jarvis Harrison - G - Texas A&M Could replace Connolly.

3. Laken Tomlinson - G - Duke - Will push Wendell and Fleming at RG

4. Tyler Kropf - TE - Rutgers. - Two things. I'd like to take a few more blocking responsibilities taken away from Gronk as he gets older. Want an in-line TE. Two. He's from Rutgers.

4. Josh Shaw - CB - USC - Story time will be fun with him.

6. est about 175 DeAndre Smelter - WR - Ga Tech - Required pick. Just teasing Manx. Impressive film you had of him.

7. est 212 Mike Hull - LB - PSU - Don't see him starting. But, he's pretty fast. Est. 4.6 I think he'll be a special teams demon and grow into a role like Casillas. LB you use in 3rd and long.

I would've taken Urschel instead of the small, slow Jimmy White at the end of the 4th round.

Two things:

(1) I don't know why you'd assume that; it's not like his play has visibly declined. If his snaps have gone down, it's because the Pats have better DL depth and don't need him to play 90% of snaps.

(2) There isn't much you can do with Brady's contract. You can save about $4.5M, but then that's by turning most of his 2015 salary into a signing bonus and prorating it over the rest of his contract. Not sure the Pats want to do that. They might, though. I see zero chance at this point of them negotiating an extension in 2015, and only a small chance they do it before the 2016 season ends.

Substitute Max Valles for Markus Golden and I like it even more - not that I don't like Golden, but I love Valles' athleticism and versatility. I might be more in favor of Jesse James or Jeff Heuerman at TE. But nice job.

I'd be thrilled with those first two picks.
I've got no problem with any of his picks. Might gamble on Terry Williams - DT - ECU with 6th. He's gonna free fall because of his off-field issues.

Bump.

1. Best available DT. Eddie Goldman > Jordan Phillips > Malcolm Brown, but I'd be thrilled with any of them.

2. Max Valles, DE/OLB, Virginia. 6'5" 240#. Only 19 years old, and insanely athletic. Collinsesque.

3. Best available OL. Jeremiah Poutasi or Donovan Smith would be nice interior maulers.

3 (comp). Best available OL. If the Pats get an OL in FA (Clint Boling or James Carpenter would be nice) then this pick can be used on OL, and the Pats' 3rd could be used to trade up if necessary, or traded into 2016.

4 (TB). Traded to NO for S Kenny Vaccaro, or best available DB. Quinten Rollins will be long gone, but Jacquiski Tartt, Durrell Eskridge, Josh Shaw and Eric Rowe could all be appealing.

4. Best available TE. Jeff Heuerman, Jesse James or Tyler Kroft would be nice.

6 (TB). DeAndre Smelter, WR, Georgia Tech. 6'3" 222#.

6 (comp). Josh Robinson, RB, Mississippi St. 5'9" 215#.

7 (Tenn). Tre McBride, WR, William & Mary. 6'1" 205#.

Same draft philosophy I have generally used but with a few changes with some risers and fallers.

#1 - Trade - (1st and 3rd) to move to pick 24 - La'el Collins - OT/OG - For some reason he seems to be falling but I don't see why. I was previously for Cameron Erving who I do still like but I think Collins is going to be a probowler at either Guard or Tackle in a few years and it is a small price to jump up to get him. Also Solder insurance if they don't like what they see this year or it all breaks down and they need someone to step in day 1. IMO if they get him somehow this is already a successful draft no matter what

#2 Jordan Phillips - DT/NT - The 2 guards I wanted look to be moving out of our trade up range which is why I didn't mind moving my 3rd to move up my 1st. So since I don't see an immediate starter for an immediate need position (Besides maybe RB) I will go with the best DL I think will be available. Even if I draft him I try to keep Wilfork 1 more year.

#3comp - Ty Montgumery - WR/Durrell Eskridge - SS - So it seems the safety I wanted here has moved out of our range and I am less excited about Eskridge as I see him with more bust potential. I think both of these guys are worth this pick though. Ty replaces Amendola in production but not scheme and hopefully breaks the WR bust trend. Eskridge looks like he could be pretty good or a bust with no inbetween option. Worth a shot though. Pick whichever falls.

#4(TB) Miles Dieffenbach - OG - Torn ACL drops him to this spot. The Pats got Stork around here and I hope Dieffenbach has a similar year. Might not be ready week one but I see starter potential here. You take that in the 4th.

#4 Jesse James - TE - A 6'7 255lb TE that can catch. Still needs to work on blocking and can and should add weight. He is not the pure blocker I had in mind but is coachable and has the size and fluidity. I see him as more of a true Gronk backup than Wright is. He will continue the current trend of bigger targets.

I don't like to mock after round 4 particularly for this team that will be cutting a lot of lower draft picks and UDFAs as they are pretty stacked.

I can't see Jordan Phillips lasting that long, but La'el Collins and Jordan Phillips would be a tremendous 1-2 combo. Love the Jesse James pick, too.

Hey Mayo, curious if you saw any of Miles Dieffenbach this or last year. I barely saw any this year and was wondering if you had more of a read. I ask cause you didn't mention that pick.

That's because I don't have a good read on him yet. I can't really offer an opinion one way or the other.

Miles didn't play much this year. He didn't come back until week 9. And, didn't start that game. His snaps were limited by the team. He got rolled into during the BC game. Will play in the Shrine. Should get a good look at him there. I'm not seeing as much in the PSU guys as some of you. Their offense was spectacularly bad this year. Hard to evaluate an individual when the whole unit sucks as a whole. I think the 4th is early for him. Can get him later. Big, strong kid. Nice frame. Won't blow anyone away. Not many of our OL do. Smart kid. Kind of team jokester. I also wouldn't pick D. Smith in the first 4 rounds. Not a fit at LT. His position at PSU. Hasn't played guard. I think he got too heavy. I also worry about Jesse James complete lack of desire to block anybody.

Refer to the bolded passage:

That's why I prefer Jeff Heuerman, tight end from Ohio State.

If the New England Patriots re-sign pending unrestricted free agent safeties Patrick Chung and Devin McCourty, remove Jaquiski Tartt from the third round compensatory selection.

If the New England Patriots fail to re-sign pending unrestricted free agent running back Shane Vereen, the New England Patriots should consider the following selection in the sixth round:

6th Round - Marcus Murphy, RB/KR/PR - Missouri (207)

After weeks of watching Draft Breakdown and every pats game this year (Currently unemployed and have nothing but time). I came up with a mock that I think would continue our dominance for years.

First I want to say I am not a NFL contract guy, so I will break it down who to keep and let go.

Keep-Revis, Devin, Ayers, Siligia, Develin, Tyms, Morris and Ghost

let go -Vereen, Connolly, Ridley, Branch, Aiken, White, Orton, Maneri and Cassillas (I really like him though)

Restructure to lower cap number-Mayo, Wilfork, Gronk and Solder

Cut-Dola, and Hooman

Mock
1. Maxx Williams- Good blocker, runs solid routes and has really good hands. Can step into Gronks role if he gets injured. If he stays healthy then we have 2 really good TE's.
2. Paul Dawson- Slightly under sized but explosive and diagnosis plays very well
3. Kevin Lockett- Great KR, as a WR runs great routes and has great hands. I see Antonio Brown when I watch him
3. Marcus Hardison- DE/DT that is quick off the ball and hustles every play. In passing situations I see him and Easley excelling.
3. Laken Tomlinson-will either step in for Connolly this year or wendell next year. Gets goodpush in the run game and is a very good pass blocker.
4. Sean Hickey- Should be able to take over for Solder next year. Great strength, but I am most impressed by his ability to wall of pass rushers due to his quickness
6. Smelter- 2015 will be a bit of a red shirt year and then he will compete in 2016. Big Body WR and solid blocker
7. Jeff Luc-I just really like him.

let me know what you think. Really good chance that this changes after the all star games.

1. Hardison, Smelter and Williams gets you an automatic like from me.

2. I really like Paul Dawson but, considering we have Collins, Hightower and Mayo and usually only put two linebackers on the field at a time, a second round pick is a touch high for me. Still, he's a quality player so I wouldn't complain.

e. I like the Tomlinson, Hickey and Lockett picks, it's just that I haven't yet seen enough of them to fully get behind them yet.

4. Excellent job. A very nice mock.

I went with Dawson because I am anticipating Mayo getting hurt again and I think he is such a good talent that I could not pass him up. For me, In order to stay dominant I think if a good LB can watch HT, Mayo and Collins it would only adds to the appeal . I am not convinced that Mayo is in the long term plans. I don't think he gets cut in the off-season, but I think his role will be diminished and contract severely reduced.

I can see a bit of a need for Dawson if you're letting Casillas walk. Because, I'd cut Mayo after next season. Doesn't make any sense to do it this year. He's not a starter in my 4-2-5 base. He's making too much to be a reserve. He can re-establish his value next season with us. Should get a decent contract somewhere else. Would like a really good backup or one able to start if we go 4-3.

Nice job. Like the Hardison and Tomlinson picks in particular. I'd personally go with a true DT over a DE/DT, but Hardison is very intriguing.

To play devil's advocate a bit, why Paul Dawson with a high pick (if he's even available that late, which looks questionable at the moment)? I like the player, and I love LBs who can play in space, but is there really enough room for Hightower, Collins, Mayo and Dawson? I could see Dawson (and Casillas staying) if Mayo is cut or traded, but it would seem to me that re-signing Casillas shouldn't be that big a deal, and I wonder whether that is the most bang for the buck out of a high draft pick.
