2014 Draft Prospect Thread

Verrett imo is the safest cb in this draft. He reminds me of Stephen Gilmore and I would love him, but not at 29. Any other year and I would be banging on the table for him.

What are your thoughts on Verrett? He posted a 16.53 which is only 0.05 off of the "gold standard Darrell Revis" and has some real good tape out there.

Sorry, I've been busy.

Verrett is a 1st round talent in a 3rd round package. He has elite speed, quickness, agility, leaping ability, ball skills, footwork ... you name it. But he's smallish (5' 9 1/2" 189#). He's reasonably scrappy and physical for his size, but he's small. That's really his only weakness. If he were 2" taller and 10# heavier he'd probably be the top CB in this class. Revis and Patrick Peterson both were bigger (Peterson much bigger), which similar freakish quickness and agility, but there's no doubt that Verrett is elite in that category. He'll make a great slot CB, and will be terrific against smaller speed receivers like Steve Smith and Tavon Austin. But his size is going to make it difficult to go outside against the bigger WRs.

He'll be a late 1st round pick, so it's hard to see the Pats investing that kind of capital in him when they already have very good slot CBs in Logan Ryan and Kyle Arrington. Ryan isn't that shabby in terms of his mobility (4.06 SS, 6.69 3C, 16.83 overall score).

Austin Seferian-Jenkins has surgery on his foot:

8 week recovery, minimum - not at all clear that he'll be able to work out before the draft, or that he'll be close to 100% if he does.

I haven't always been his biggest fan, but this is starting to feel like gronk pre draft. Gronk missed a lot more time obviously, but with as tight as this draft is, missing the combine and the next 8 weeks could slide him way down.

If he's been playing on a bad foot then he could be better once he's healed. If he slips down draft boards, he may be a bit more motivated than if he had coasted to a 1st round selection. We'll see what happens, but this is an interesting situation to follow.

ASJ is a interesting player.

He would be a top 20 pick most years

Off field issues knocked him down to a bottom first or high 2nd.

This injury may push him outside the 2nd round all together.

Seems like a great value get for us at pick 59 possibly. 1 month ago that would have been impossible.

I was watching some clips of Kareem Martin, de, UNC and though he is not my favorite prospect, he reminds me of a less explosive Chandler Jones.

In other words, he's Jake Bequette

My ideal for that backup pass rusher role is someone that can play two roles, preferably DE/DT or DE/LB. That was why I was so high on Aaron Donald. Certainly don't think Kareem Martin fits the description.

What do you think about Shazier?

As a pass rusher? Not a lot. Fine blitzing linebacker (15.5 career sacks), but I don't see him as a hand in the dirt DE. He can probably do it on occasion but I see him more as a LB/S. I love him in that role and have done for ages.

As a linebacker/sub-rusher.

He can play LB one play then do this as an edge rusher on the next

Like Jamie Collins, I have no problem with Shazier doing it on occasion, but I want him all over the field on passing downs. Blitzing one one, dropping into the intermediate middle on another, marking a TE on a third. In terms of a pass rusher, I'm thinking about someone doing it on a more regular basis. In fact,to me, Ryan Shazier is a beneficial add because he frees up Jamie Collins to do more pass rushing.

So who do you like for your DL/LB role?
