2014 Draft Prospect Thread

The 2013 Crimson Tide Defense is looking like that of the 1976 Steelers.

7 Games ~ against Virginia Tech, Colorado State, Mississippi, Georgia State, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Tennessee.

36 Points.

Total.

Considering that the average College Game is about 52-31 or something, that is preposterous.

Oh.

And Texas A&M, home to Johnny "My Game Allegedly Doesn't Translate to the NFL" FootBall, scored 42.

Just.

Sayin.

Yeah, what they're doing is absolutely ridiculous right now. It's almost not fair for the SEC how good they are year in and year out. They're going to win another National Championship, barring an unforseen rash of disasterous injuries to their top players. That defense is capable of completely shutting down whatever offense they face in the big game, be it either FSU, OSU, or Oregon.

Couldn't agree with you more. Pass-rushers are usually too expensive in free-agency. And, I think Ninko sees a little time at LB with Spikes headed back to Gainesville. Also, I haven't found one yet either. I'm hoping to see Larry Webster Jr. - Bloomsburg get an invite to one of the smaller all star games and see what he looks like against D-1 linemen. Bloomsburg is the school that sent Jahri Evans - G - to the NFL

I don't like the pass rushers in this draft so far although Webster has been on my "interesting" list since last year and I personally don't see anyone better than Jamie Collins to fill a specialist pass rushing role.

However, has anyone had a look at the Baylor DE Shawne Oakman. 6'8" of potential pass rushing goodness albeit only a RS Soph with one year experience.

Oakman is a big kid. Baylor is on tv tonight. There is a red-flag on him. He got tossed out of PSU. Had an incident in a school cafeteria type setting. He was told his card was out of points and the cashier confiscated it. He didn't hit her. But, have heard that he backed the cashier against a wall. Middle-aged woman. He's 6'9" 285lb. Tried to intimidate her the story goes. This was right after O'Brien took over. About 6 weeks. Some people think he was made an example of. I think he got what he deserved. Tossed off of the team.
It would really be in his best interests to have another good season and stay out of trouble another year before he tests the waters. Hear he's not a bad kid. Did something stupid. And O'Brien even helped him find a landing spot. That's where Phil Taylor went when he got tossed out of PSU and he hasn't been in any trouble since.

No Argument from me.

I would love to see a ShowDown between Alabama's Defense and Oregon's Offense!! :rocker:

While Oregon might have the most explosive offense. I feel it's scheme driven. I want to see FSU get a crack at Alabama. They can spread you out and also be quite physical running the ball. I think they would be a better test for Bama's defense. Hell, Nick Fairley blew up Oregon's offense single-handedly a couple of years ago.

Hell, North Carolina State beat FSU last year :)

Baylor are an interesting team this year.

Oregon is on the ropes right now as Stanford is just running the ball right down their throat. I have a feeling it will be FSU vs. Alabama as I don't have any hope of my Gators knocking Famous Jameis off. We're really the last "obstacle" in their way.

"Come to Daddy Mariota, come to daddy"-Stanford

Yeah, that's the way I see it playing out, as well. I'm sure most would agree.

The Seminoles's obliteration of Clemson a few weeks ago was arguably the most impressive Victory in all of College this Year. To go in as Visitors against the unbeaten #3 and just annihilate them was awesome.

Damned impressive how completely Stanford has Oregon's number.

My main takeaway from last night's game: How can someone rank a QB #1 overall that gets stonewalled against the one good defense he plays a year?

At the dispair of many draft experts, it's looking like Manziel will have to be ranked the #2 QB behind Bridgewater come draft time. :D

Teddy BridgeWater's been the consensus #01 QuarterBack Prospect ~ and my #01 Overall ~ for a long time.

Mariota has been getting a Push, of late, and some have foolishly put him ahead of BridgeWater.

I think it's safe to say that that's over, now...at least for a while.

I think last night solidified a few things. FSU is likely Alabama's opponent in the National Title Game (baring an upset). Teddy Bridgewater is the #1 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and Marcus Mariota is probably gonna stay in school after that performance. Personally I don't like dual threat QB's anyway. I still think NFL games are won from the pocket and guys that use their legs as a major part of their game lack the consistency to lead a team to the Super Bowl. If I'm a team like Cleveland that is out of the Teddy Bridgewater stakes and needs a QB, the guy I go after is Kirk Cousins. I think he is a legit NFL QB and I would take him over any of the other QB's in this draft.

Oh, and isn't it great to see some smash mouth football in the Pac 12. I would love to see how Stanford would stack up against a quality SEC team.

What is it Mariota can grain by staying a year in school? Infact i beleave he would only Loose by doing so.

Just been watching the cut up for Darqueze Dennard v Michigan, and as the video wore on, my attention turned to #9 Isaiah Lewis. Saw him beat on one play (which was Dennard's INT), but other than that looked very solid.

I think he still has a lot of work to do as a pocket passer before he considered a top NFL prospect. He is highly regarded now but the evaluation process is only just starting, he hasn't even begun to be picked apart yet. When people really break down his mechanics, understanding of the playbook, ability to go through progressions and overall football IQ I don't know if he will still be as highly ranked. Not to mention the questions about scheme fit and being able to adapt to the NFL. So much changes between the end of the season and the draft, especially for QB's that I don't know if it's a smart move for a 20 year old redshirt sophomore to declare early. Then there is also a chance he might want to take another shot at a national title or want to graduate.

I'm going to the Georgia/App St game tomorrow. Any prospects I should be looking out for?

There's only really prospects from Georgia - the two I would watch are:

TE Lynch #88
OG Burnette #68

There's also the QB Murray, but I'm not a fan at all.

Murray, Lynch, Swann, Gurley (2015), Marshall Morgan (2015), Gates...have a fun time, should be a blast

Thanks guys:) I will keep an eye out for them.

I am Mariota fan but last night was ugly. Stanford is just a nightmare match up for them and mauled them. The whole team played poorly. The only tiny glimmer of positive was that the team decided to battle in the fourth quarter, when it was unclear if they had quit in the 3rd.

On a similar note, it took Baylor a bit to find their groove against Oklahoma. For 25 minutes, it was the same thing as the spread offense struggled against a big tough physical D. But Baylor figured it out before the half, and then just drilled them. Bryce Petty really battled in that game. Art Briles is such a great schemer with his extra wide splits, it is tough to gauge how his QB's will be at the next level, but Petty has Moxie, and that is ingredient number 1 for a QB
